I have a 1999 gmc k1500 pick up. The fuel pump stopped working so purchased a new one but when I hook up the wires it does not kick in. I have power to the hook up. Any ideas what could be wrong?

SLOW DOWN THE FUEL PUMP WILL POWER UP BY ECM FOR 15TO20 SEC SO KEY OFF WAIT COUPLE OF MIN NOW HAVE SOME ONE DO KEY ON ONLY.YOU LISEN TO PUMP.IF NO PUMP NOISE. YOU NEED TO RECHECK YOUR WIRING THAT CAME WITH NEW PUMP IF WIRING IS GOOD RETEST BUT CHECK POWER AND GROUNG IF POWER AND GROUND ARE GOOD. BAD PUMP OR WIRING WRONG.RELAY BOX HAS RELAY AND FUSE FRONT OF TRUCK
I would check the fuel pump relay first. You should have some fuel pressure in the lines when you turn the key on. The relay is powered for 3 seconds to boost pressure until the engine starts. The relay may not be working or the check valve in the pump may be letting fuel back into the tank which would cause the pressure to drop to zero when the engine is off. You should have at least 15psi with a TBI system and 35psi with MFI.
i dont believe there is a fuel cutoff switch on that yr but you might want to check the pump take it out and wire it straight to the battery for a few seconds if it doesnt kick on and stay on then return the fuel pump... if it kicks on and stays on then you might want to consider a new sending unit as well as the pump it doesnt cost that much more and then you wont have that worry later down the road
MY 93 K1500 BLAZER DID THE SAME THING. I RAN A HOT WIRE FROM THE BATTERY INTO MY CAB TO A TOGGLE SWITCH . AND ANOTHER HOT WIRE TO THE POSITIVE WIRE OF THE FUEL PUMP ON THE OUT SIDE OF THE TANK. NOW YOU DON"T NEED TO GROUND THE FUEL PUMP OR TOGGLE SWITCH OUT. THE FUEL PUMP IS ALL READY GROUNDED. MAKE SURE TO PUT A 20 OR 30 AMP BREAKABLE FUSE IN BETWEEN THE WIRE FROM THE BATTERY AND TOGGLE SWITCH. I DID THIS ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO AND IT HAS WORKED GREAT EVERY SINCE. JAKE .B
check fuel pump relay outside under hood there is also a pump jumper on driver side single red wire with plug on end where harness comes out of firewall hook up to bypass and see if pump is working also check to see if you plugged pump back in when replaced
NO.THERE IS A RED WIRE W/ A CONECTOR IN LEFT SIDE ON THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.BACK BY THE FIREWALL.IF THERE IS POWER THERE.THEN THERE IS POWER TO THE PUMP(PUMP IS BAD)NO POWER THERE THEM CHECK THE FUEL PUMP RELAY(RIGHT REAR OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT.
Sounds like a after market pump? I did the same thing.Go Ac/Delco for the best case.Note no sound no fuel.Try the old turn the key on and give the tank a kick. This kinda kick starts the pump.Idone this a few times. If you are stuck and your pump stops and it did start by kick don't stop the engine till you are home or a shop.
