My 2004 Dodge Neon is overheating

you might have air in the cooling system, or water pump might not be functioning right, I would try burping the system first too see. with the car off and cooled down pull the radiator cap off and start the car, let it run for about 30 minutes should force all air out of the system, keep a eye on the coolant level while doing this.

Burping the cooling system

start the car let it run 4-5 minutes. shut it off , let it set 5 minutes check level, sometimes it takes 10 -15 time to get it to cycle all the air. even a short trip around the block a few times and always making sure to fill the reservoir. the new closed systems are a pain to get all the air out. also remember to have the heater on in full heat position to allow the system to circulate through the whole cooling system.

Burp air bubble coolant system of dodge neon 1998

I don't believe you have air in your system. It sounds like a sticking thermostat to me. But you better figure it out quick those neon motors don't like big temp changes. Your playing with cracking or warping the head. Any way here's what i know about burping.
When you drain & refill a cooling system air is often traped in places like the heater core. If so the coolant level will appear full before it really is. To burp you need to add coolant till full or just over. Adjust the heater control to MAX heat. This will let full force of water pump to push air out of heater core. Fan speed dose not matter. Next start the motor & let it idle. As it warms up the thermostat will begin to open and close. This is when you should see fluid level drop as trapped air is pushed from system ( add fluid as needed). If this is working right you should fell quite hot air coming from heat vents. If air doesn't seem hot enough adding RPM by pulsing gas pedal should do the trick. And that should do it.

Running hot?

2 possible things. 1st(cheapest) you have air in cooling system. Need to burp it. 2nd(expensive) you may have blown head gasket. I tend to think air is in cooling system and your level is low.

I have a '99 Plymouth Neon that overheats. I have replaced the thermostat and even the radiator. Problem is that it stills gets hot. What next?

Do a collant system flush. You have already spent too much money because the clog may be in the engine. Big big warning. Before doing a cooling system flush, check your oil color. Should be normal. After the flush make sure it is still normal and not tannish. This spells trouble big time.

Did you burp the air out of the cooling system once you were done reassembling the car? If not, click my screenname, go to my tips and tricks, and follow the procedure I posted there.

1999 DODGE NEON OVER HEATING ISSUES

You probably just need to "burp" your cooling system. Run the car (from cold) with the radiator cap open and the heater on full blast. As the engine heats up and the water level goes down, fill it up until it stays full and starts to overflow.
