No way it would take three weeks. It is more likely that he has three weeks of other jobs ahead of you.

so here is my wild and useless guess on the story.
1: engine lamp on, low oil pressure and or huge engine noises.
2: mech checks real oil pressure using a real gauge and is 1 to 2psi. and bad.
3: this is all you need, to see that the engine is shot. (see below)
but this engine has chain drive oil pump.
no miles stated.
50k,100k 200k 300k 500k what? must we guess miles??????
story 2, for the not knowing.
1: huge noise, you find cam chains bad, 250k miles>
and dont drive it , and fix it.
2: same deal but drive it and the change snaps and this interference engine smashes valves.. end of engine.
3; only the chain tensioner failed, and is so bad the oil side of it the oil pressure piston inside is wrecked, and leaks oil so bad
the oil pressure drops, well gee, fix it. now before #2 happens.
i bet your mech never worked problems like this/?
the tension'er is a hydraulic device.
it can in fact leak horribly. and drop oil pressure, and worse.
if you ignore the noise, it will cost you big MONEY.
that is called CASCADE failures. and most are costly.
get a 2nd live "hands on
" opinion, or 3rd.
why ask one shop?

starters are normally located at the rear of the motor usually hard to get too or see. should be on your bell housing in other words just in front of the gearbox/clutch

Try these easy things...take off clean and reconnect the battery cables, take to Auto Zone for a FREE computer hook up. More than likely if the battery hook up doesn't work it's the oxygen sensor.

Take the car to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer for any fault codes stored. The check engine light is to alert you that the computer has noted a fault in one of the car's systems. Getting the codes will show what the computer has noted and curb the need for speculation. Most parts stores will perform the scan for free. Hope this helped and best wishes.
