Hi,

I hope this Helps. Most likely its either the Mass air flow sensor or the fuel pump. The MAF is an electrical piece located on the air hose. This video can give you some guidance.

If you have the foot on the brake when stopping and it stalls , try slowing down and stopping on the hand brake to see if the engine stalls . If it doesn't stall on the hand brake then I would suspect a leak in the brake booster that is affecting the engine by letting air into the manifold through the activated booster. If there is no difference have the fault codes read as there may be a missing/ faulty vacuum line connected to a actuator in the gear box.

Stalls when stopped at a light

Do you have more information? Such as, does it do this every single time you are stopped? Does it ever happen when you aren't quite at a complete stop? How soon does it stall after stopping at the light (right when it's completely stopped? As you apply the gas to move again?)?

Mainly a vehicle will stall do to a problem relating to the fuel/air system. Specifying any 'special conditions' (very hot, very cold, etc.) when the stalling seems to be more prone to happening (if any) will help with a diagnosis.

It could possibly be a bad/faulty fuel pump, where the engine isn't getting the proper flow of gas (in a case like yours, it would most likely be an intermittent flow).

Also, a faulty throttle positioning sensor (TPS) could be the problem. These are a somewhat 'run of the mill' problem in vehicles in general and aren't overly expensive to replace. This is even more likely the problem if your vehicle stalls when you are taking off from the stop light. This isn't difficult to test yourself and there was plenty of directions to do so online and elsewhere.

A vacuum leak is another possibility. Another symptom of this can be a high idle (higher than usual for your vehicle at least).

Lastly, I wouldn't imagine this to be very common but it's worth a look, and i only mention it because it was the problem with my '87 Celebrity that suddenly stalled at a stop light, then kept stalling whenever i pressed the gas to move. The car had a known engine oil leak, one area of which it effected being the air filter housing (old-fashioned circular one). I noticed, once i finally got moving (albeit only for a short time before stalling again) it sounded as though the engine wasn't getting enough air. Even though i had just recently replaced the air filter, i checked it and found it was completely covered with dirty engine oil. I took out the dirty air filter and it solved it. It just hadn't been letting enough air through. So, simple solution though not commonly the case. No harm in checking anyways.

Good luck.

Have you had the electronics tested for fault codes? That is the 1st step when you have a problem like this.

Every time my car comes to a red light it powers off.why?

EGR (exhaust gas recirculation),or TPS (throttle position sensor) When the vehicle makes a stop and go into idle. The RPM is basically too low to maintain the RPM, If the vehicle runs 800 RPM in park or neutral and doesnt stall the setting is correct. If it stall in neutral or park and has a hard time accelerating you will need a TPS, The EGR can stall a engine if it stays open underload approching a stop where it doesnt close properly

1994 mazda cronos 2.00 v6 auto car idles ok drives ok but when i come to a stop it stalls in gear been atuo

This sounds like a problem with the torque converter lockup system. Usually the torque converter lockup solenoid is at fault in your condition. This solenoid usually locks up the torque convertor (which acts like a clutch in an automatic transmission) when you are driving at a certain speed, and unlocks it when you press the brake, and/or come to a stop. When a torque converter stays locked up, and you stop the vehicle, it acts like a vehicle with a manual transmission, if you bring the vehicle to a complete stop without applying the clutch pedal, the brakes stall the engine. Basically, if the torque converter can't unlock, even when you come to a stop, the engine is still locked to the transmission, and even when you apply the brakes, the torque converter doesn't slip and freewheel like it should, but instead stalls the engine.

Corsica stalls at stop signs

sounds like the EGR valve is sticky, take a small screw driver and tap the valve when the engine is at idle and you will notice a change in the way the engine runs, if the vehicle smooths out disconnect the valve and drive the vehicle and it should not cut off please let me know and dont forget to rate me!!
