My 2005 ZX4 focus is making a loud sound from the exhaust. It sounds like it is coming from the front end of the car.

Wheel bearing are the most likely. If you just jack up the car, you will feel movement or roughness. The other possibility is the transmission. check the oil level or ATF level.

Ideas here, also mechanics have magnetic microphone kits to pinpoint noise.

My friend's 2004 Focus was doing the same thing - especially loud when accelerating from a stop. When it reached stable speed, it got much quieter. We thought it was exhaust also, but couldn't find any cracks, gaps, or obvious leaks. We brought it to a garage, and they found a bad motor mount. When the engine was under load, it would torque (against either the frame or firewall) and make the loud, irritating noise. A new engine mount, and it sounds almost new again.

Wheel bearing? If you turn left and it gets louder. It is the right wheel bearing. And vice versa.

broken cable. try operating the gearshift while looking for the operation on the transmission itself. raise hood and observe the transmission.

there is a skinny rod that hooks up to the handle the little washer looking piece holds it in place it might have fallen off

Yes, it could be the ac clutch or the compressor itself.

the flex pipe in the exhaust is probally broken or maybe a crack in the manifold.

in the front of the car , look for a connector that has a blue and orange connector,, follow those wires to the sensor,, if you google Focus air bag problems, you will see that Ford has lots of problems concerning this make, and might be under recall
