2001 Dodge Durango 4.7L just shut off with check gages light coming on. After sitting started up and while driving Fuel Gage dropped to Empty and DTE indicated 0. Tank was 3/4 full. Verified by filling up. Gage now only shows 1/2 full and DTE at 141 about 1/2 distance normally.
Don't worry about the fuel gauge. Check grounds under the hood. Battery to body, also PCM to body, both on the passenger side. The only reason the car would die from the fuel is because of the PCM. The gauge and pump or controlled by it. First have the codes read.
Michael, take vehicle into a good shop and have scanned to see what diagnostic codes are in computer, have shop estimate repair.
Issue with fuel gage could be bad wire/plug or faulty sending unit.
