Remove plug from no:1 cylinder, insert a long, (very long) screwdriver into the hole...At its highes point you should have TDC, as soon as it starts descending you are off. Ensure your distributor is set to cylinder 1.

Engine Timing marks on a 4.0 ford ranger on a 2005

Rotate the engine so that No. 1 cylinder is at TDC on the compression stroke. Check that the timing marks are aligned on the camshaft and crankshaft pulleys. An access plug is provided in the cam belt cover so that the camshaft timing can be checked without removal of the cover or any other parts. Set the crankshaft to TDC by aligning the timing mark on the crank pulley with the TDC mark on the belt cover. Look through the access hole in the belt cover to make sure that the timing mark on the cam drive sprocket is lined up with the pointer on the inner belt cover.

What is the correct timming mark or degrees for 1962 ford falcon 170 motor

According to my Chilton book it is 4 degrees Before TDC for a standard transmission and 10 degrees Before TDC on the automatic. The marks are on the pulley it says, not the damper. It doesn't say what size the engine is. It does list a 170 and a 144 for 1963. In 1963 the timing is 6 degrees BTDC for the standard and 12 BTDC for the automatic and the mark is on the damper. Hope this helps.

Need timing blet diagram 1992 ford ranger 2.3

Hi, the crankshaft marks are on the belt pulley and timing cover, so you have to mate it up to see them. The cam sprocket mark goes on the bottom, and aligns with another mark on the timing cover. There is a plug you pull out and hole to look thru to align the cam sprocket/shaft.

Engine diagram for a `94

We recently towed in a Ford Falcon Futura, a 1994 model
which had a ceased engine & did a complete over haul on it. Now the engine cranks but can not start.
Having the timing set on TDC we still can not get the engine to start.
What do you think I should do to have the engine run?

When you putting a 94 ford probe in time. Where do the timing marks go?

there should be little groove marks on the edge of the timing gear, line this up with TDC (top dead center), there should be another groove mark though just above the gear.

line up exterior mark on crankshaft pulley & observe for compression at TDC. remove drive belt/s and any accessory in way, remove 2 10mm nuts retaining cover at top (may have special bolt/stud begin to turn also, clamp if you can), remove crank pulley, remove lower bolts, support engine with jack remove upper engine mount remove timing cover, replace belt check alignment marks rotate 2 revolutions to TDC again & recheck marks, recheck bet tension, tighten adjuster nutsand reassemble
