TJ what year,, be nice to know year.
i guess this is a 4wd question,
and you are running part time 4wd, and does not work on pavement, it is NOT AWD, all wheel drive.
its only FOR, offroad, or driving on ICE< , ONLY
so first tell us what tires are touching>?
dirt
Ice
or pavement.
here are the words in your missing operators guide
http://jeepdied.com/4WD-DAMAGE.txt
see YJ comments here on command-trac 4wd
http://jeepdied.com/4WD.html
here is what happens
if you do it wrong.
the damage, and why.

your car has no center differential or the slip clutch
to better understand, look at rear of transfer case
see that tag, it tells you which system you have
?
The NP207 transfer case was used only for 1987 and replaced by the NP231.(got 231?)

How do i check the front axle vacuum selonoid on a 2002 jeep wrangler

02 , just sold mine, best car ever. had, of many.

how do you know that.?

and what are the tires, touching, (dirt, snow, ice, grass , pavement)

what?

this car has part time 4wd, it is not AWD

its not a Grand cheerokee with AWD.

engaging 4wd on ice free pavement is wrong.

http://www.rubicon-trail.com/4WD101/driveline-bind.html

and my fsm states.

read the operators guide in the glove box, it will say....

"2WD is intended to be driven on normal street and highway conditions, such as HARD surfaced roads."

Then

"4H & 4L positions are intended for loose slippery road surfaces only and not intended for normal driving" (They assume paved streets are normal.)

"Driving in 4H or 4L positions on hard surfaces roads, will cause, increased tire wear, and damage to the drive line components."

Unqual tire sizes, will do the same damage. "circumference mismatched"

Last: "do not attmpet to make a shift, while only the front or rear wheels are spinning" No transfer case synchronizer exists and damage will result."
(kill the gear dogs, you will)

1986 cj7 unstable steering with wide tires

Check your lower and upper control arm ball joints as well as the tie rod ends. Also make sure your wheel lugs are tight. Also make sure front hubs are in the free position when operating on the street. If the Jeep has a straight axel, check the king pin bushings at the steering knuckles.

2004 jeep wrangler X. front tires & steering wheel wobbles at 50 - 60 mph but stops after 60 & below 50 mph. Changed both side shocks, steering stabilizer shock, track bar, sway bar bushings, all 4...

Well the only thing you didn't change were ball joints and if it's four heel drive , the universal joints in the shafts. Since it is a balance problem I would suspect the drive shafts. Although these are uncommon to have a vibration at a certain speed, I wouldn't rule them out. Also the u joints can get stiff, this would cause your problem faster. Check them for a lot of rust at the caps. And just a note alot of front end guys miss the shafts on alignments.

I have a 1997 Jeep Wrangler with uneven front tire wear. I have had them about 2-years. Moving front to back along the interior lugs of Goodyear Wrangler MTS tires there are lugs that are more worn than...

You didn't mention if you ever rotated the tires. I suggest you get them re-balanced and put the fronts on the rear. I recommend putting them front to back without crossing them. There's been an argument about that for many years and I still believe that crossing will cause belts to shift inside the tire and that can cause it to fail if you reverse the rolling rotation, especially if no rotation has been done for a long time. (rotate about once a year) It may also be a good idea to replace your front shock absorbers. Unless you live somewhere it gets very hot, I'd also run your tire pressure at 35psi. If you normally run it lower, it may feel a bit hard at first but it's easy to get used to and the tires will last longer.

It road walks from side to side like the front end is loose. Have checked the steering gear box and tie rod ends and neither are loose.

make sure it is tracking right that is that the back tires are straight behind front tires try turning front wheels straight and get a string put it on the side of front tire and run it back to the rear tire string should be straight if not then the tracking is off

2001 Jeep wrangler, at 45-50 mph, the front end and steering wheel shakes real bad.

I would start by first making sure you dont have a bent rim. Check the tires for any bubbles in the sidewall or any deformation in the tire as this would suggest a broken cord inside the tire. If that checks out, get the tires balanced and see if that solves the problem.

1991 jeep 4wd fuse

Check transfer case wiring, possible loose wiring/open circuit. If your other lights in dashboard work such brake light, seat belt lights, engine light than it is not a fuse. raise all for tires from the ground and engage the four wheel drive remember to have in neutral and put in gear either 4L or 4H and see if the wheels in front move.

Took back to store where bought tires and rims. They also put the computer on, but they drove with it attached and the tech who was in passenger seat said left front wheel not calibrated as the others so he calibrated all wheels to .05 at the maximum tire allowance. This has stopped the brakes from grabbing.

Said that the factory had programmed in for 16 inch rims. Jeep came standard with 18 inch.
Now everything working great. Don't know why dealership could not do this properly. Happy I bought tires and rims from a reputable and knowlegeable store. (Tire Craft) Thanks Mike.

Loose wheel, bad bearing, cv joint. in that order to check. Put in four whell drive and turn a sharp circle and it should help isolate, if yu could have someone outside walking beside the area the noise is coming from, I think the most likely thing will be the cv joint.
