Do you have the cruise control on when this unwanted down sfift occurs? I don't understand why this would annoy or scare you. Are you that inflexible? Both my cars have this feature, I love it.

You can not disable the automatic downshift if it is a harsh shift you have a defective transmission or other shift control issue. I would go with the transmission being defective. Has the fluid and filter ever been changed? should be done at about 60,000 miles for optimum transmission life and function.

I actually only have 33000 mi on it. Dealership says when I am going down a mountain and around here that would be at a 6% grade it down shifts as though I have manually pulled my gear shift to a lower gear. Told me it is supposed to save brakes. If I hit the gas it shifts back up until I brake again. Was told I could push button on end of gear shift when starting engine and hold and it disengages that system. My 2004 Avalanche did not have his feature. Afraid if I disengage the system it will hurt brakes/transmission.

My 99 jimmy with a 4L60E, on a downshift (kickdown) at highway speed or any speed really when downshift by pressing down the accelarator or downshifting by hand the tansmission feels like it's in neutral,...

First off there may be nothing wrong. At highway speed, the trans will shift down to 1st, but you won't feel it. If should feel like neutral. Does it shift normally when your "wide open throttle" from standstill? If it shifts properly in this situation, then your fine, don't worry. How about wide open throttle at say 25mph? how about 35 and 45? anything over that and its gonna feel like neutral. IF your convinced that your passing gear is not working right, it could mean that its out of adjustment, and needs a little more push, more throw, or kinda like adjusting the rod out a little bit further. Adjust your "passing gear linkage" or kickdown as you imply. Second guess would be low on transmisison fluid, filter, and last, the transmissoin control selonoid. Again I suggest its doing just fine, if it shifts down at any speed.

Do you mean upshifting starts way early? Going from 2nd to 3rd in other words?
Ireally don't know your transmission, but the alternator problem might've possibly spiked and hurt your shifting solenoids in the ******. don-ohio (:^)

Cold auto Transmission won't shift into 3 gear until after driving 1 mile or so (driving at about 35 mgh) pickup then downshifts from 3 to 2nd then back to 3rd a few times untill I get to work (7 miles...

Sounds like a bad speed sensor. Perform an ODBII scan soon. ECU should delay upshift until coolant temp senses warm up. It will not work right unless a signal is present from speed sensor.

Auto trans will not downshift automaticly

Educated guess: Sounds like a shift solenoid or a speed sensor gone bad. Search a Ram truck owner forum (start witha  Google search) to see if it is a common problem.

2005 Toyota Transmission downshifts rough

Sounds like you need the updated engine computer for harsh shifting. Look up under the glove box at the computer. Number should be 89661-02K21 if not, you need the update. It is an 8/80 warranty item.
