JEEP 04 GRAN SUDENNLY AND FOR A SPLIT SECOND FEELS
JEEP 04 GRAN SUDDENLY AND FOR A SPLIT SECOND FEELS LIKE BRAKING ACTION FROM FRONT WHEN ACCELORATING. MAYBE THE HUBS ARE ENGAGING, VERY ABRUPT AND SCARY. HAPPENS 1-2 TIMES IN 30 MILES OR NOT AT ALL
Don't rely on this as a fix, but my first thought is that a dead spot in the throttle position sensor could give you that sensation.Don't rely on this as a fix, but my first thought is that a dead spot in the throttle position sensor could give you that sensation.

CHECK THE ABS TONE RINGS ON FRONT CV AXLES..OUT ON AXLE AXLE END NEAR WHEEL BEARING..HAVE SLOTS OR TEETH..ONE MAY BE CRACKED AND GIVING AN ERRATIC SPEED SIGNAL TO ABS MODULE..CAN BE AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM

check brake pads /shoes for lining thickness if drums check for ovality in the drums surface or disc condition
check rear end suspension rubbers and shockys.
check for correct operation of the brake portioning valve as the condition may be from the rear wheels locking up
if it has ABS braking it may be the braking action , a combination of the items to be checked that is causing the problem
The 1999 Jeep Gran Cherokee has standard all-wheel antilock brakes. The new braking system has electronic brake distribution capability, which makes for a quieter, less pulsing and more balanced braking experience. Possessing the largest brake rotors in the sport-utility segment, the Grand Cherokee meets or exceeds requirements for passenger vehicles, which are stricter than those for light trucks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original Launch X431 Master
yes but up to a point
the brake pedal should move about 1" to take up the pedal free play and then be applied smoothly as you press further
the harder you press the more solid stopping action you will get
that way you can feel the brakes working so that you can adjust the braking action for stopping
there should be no hissing noise that occurs when the brakes are being applied
you say hydro booster which is hydraulic booster but a hissing noise will come from an air leak in a vacuum brake booster which indicates that it needs repalcing
Hi BM, When you press the brake pedal do you feel a kickback or a pumping action against your foot? If so the problem is with the brake discs. they will need skimming or replacing. If you do not feel the pumping action, have the tyres and the front end checked, looking for wear in the suspension rubber bushing, ball joints, tie rod ends, rack ends, and any damage to the front superstructure. The shock absorbers can also cause a bouncing and thereby instability when braking. Regards John
Rotors are probably warped and need to be rectified or replaced. When the brakes were replaced did the rotors get turned? If not need to resurface rotors
If you only feel the vibration while braking it is most likely in the brake system. Either your front rotors are rusted, pitted or out of round or your rear drums or rotors are. By rule you can usually machine them once, but not always depending on their condition.
If they are not worn beyond tollerance they can be machined on the vehicle.
Also make sure its not tyres or wheel bearings.
remove wheel
remove brake caliper( leave the hose connected)
remove centre cap
remove split pin and lock
unscrew bearing hub nut
rotor should come off
fit new bearing races in new rotor
grease new bearings
fit inside bearing and seal
refit rotor, outer bearing, washer, nut, lock, splitpin and centre cap
(tighten nut until no play in bearing plus 1\8 of a turn)
refit caliper and wheel
bleed and test brakes before driving
Don't rely on this as a fix, but my first thought is that a dead spot in the throttle position sensor could give you that sensation.
