I have been trying to find out how to take the motor out of this car, I really do not want to have to drop it out the bottom. What is the best way, I need to change the rear main seal.
Yes it can be removed from the top as long as you remove the intake and make sure all the wiring is disconnected. Please note you MUST HAVE the seal installer tool or the seal will leak worse than ever. Trust me on this.

On lots of cars but not this particular one.
Same as my husband, but never on this Aveo.
He also thinks the transmission might be on the way out too. Oil is very dirty and the car has 160,000, not original owners so don't know when the last transmission oil has been changed. The owner thinks the car is not shifting right. hate to put lots of money into it if it needs a rebuilt transmission.

Connie, I am not sure on this, but can the engine remain in car and you remove transmission. Then you can access rear seal and change it. I have done this in other makes and models, but I have not done it in a Aveo. It may be worth a look.

OMG forget the car, the tranny will bankrupt you. You have no idea, the part are sky high
My husband is out in the garage right now trying to decide on what's going on, he knows he has to change the rear main seal, and he also said the transmission oil is brown, he is going to drop the oil pan to see if there are any metal shavings in it. He has done transmissions before, but never on a car like this. He does know the car is not worth a lot of money and he will not want to do all that work if it needs a different transmission.
Thanks again for your information, he will also have to buy the tool to put that rear seal in and I don't know what that cost.
