The Vehicle Theft Alarm (VTA) system is an available
option on Grand Cherokee models. This system
is designed to protect against vehicle theft by monitoring
vehicle doors, hood, liftgate and ignition action
for unauthorized operation. When unauthorized operation
is detected, the VTA system responds by sounding
the horn, flashing the headlamps, park and tail
lamps and providing an engine no-run feature. Following
are general descriptions of the features of the
VTA system. Refer to Group 8W - Wiring Diagrams
for complete circuit descriptions and diagrams

SOURCE: i would like to disable the factory anti-theft and
According to the people at jeep it can not be disabled. WRONG!!!! here are the steps that work.
First you must pull the plastic off the front of the dash on the passenger side.
Behind the glove box you will find a metal box shaped compartment.
Inside that box is your alarm. DO NOT DISCONNECT IT YET!!!!!!!!!!
The most important thing is the jeep must be running before you disconnect the alarm.
Start the jeep and look at the little box and you will find one screw that is holding the alarm box in place. remove the screw and disconnect the wires going to it.
At this point you can turn off the jeep.
The reason you must have the jeep running is the computer shows it has an alarm in place and if you disconnect it while the jeep is not running it will shut down the jeep thinking it has been stolen.
With the jeep running and you disconnect the alarm it will not be able to send the code to the computer showing an alarm is in place and the jeep alarm will not cause you any problems ever again..
If you have questions about this just let me know at [email protected]
SOURCE: how do i override/reset anti theft system?
this does not sound like an antitheft problem. the SKIS systems in the jeeps will allow the truck to start, but it will turn off again after 5 seconds.
FYI if your jeep key is gray, it has the SKIS system. if it is a black key, it does not.
have you already done diagnostics for a no start? if you are lacking fuel or spark, you need to look elsewhere for the problem if it does not start at all. good luck!
