Why doesn't it shift to higher gear than 2nd?

run the fault codes to find the problem sensor
could be TCM, TR sensor or VSS sensor

the transmittion keeps shifting in & out of gear between 45 & 50 mph it shifts to a higher gear then a lower then higher then lower till I get above 50 mph whats the problem & how to fix it

this is a well known problem with the Audi-transmissions, we do have a lot of failures with them over here in Germany. ;)

There are some software updates available, in many cases this fixed the problem.

Another possibility is a faulty transmission speed sensor, this is causing the hard shift behaviour.

First you should see the dealer to check the transmission control module´s trouble code memory and to check if there is a software update available for your car.

Sounds like you need a clutch

The 2nd gear in the transission is not working, the transmission need to be repaired, if in the early stage, once it is broken down the mechanic will determine if the transmission need totally rebuilt

how do u know its 2nd gear, has the cable snapped that controls the gear change.
if not try tensioning it, if no joy another transmission

drain and fill trans with fresh fluid
trans may have to be rebuilt

What you need to check is the transmission release bearing because if there is a clearance on the release bearing you will encounter this problem and also check the transmission oil.
