the neautral safety switch is out of adjustmen loose or broken it is located under the vehicle bolted on the side of the transmission where the linkage goes in to the ****** if you have a basic knowledge with tools it is a easy repair and the neatural safety swich or TRS transmission range switch can be bought at most auto parts stores Johnie G ASE Master 35yrs
if the nuetral safety was a problem the car would not start at all, sounds like you have a defective engine wiring harness, this is the most common cause of this i have seen while working for Ford.
Sounds like you need to replace the neutral safety switch it is normaly located on the automatic transmission, they are not overly expensive from auto part shops. Too test the neautral safety switch use a multimeter in the ohms position it should measure low (basicly 0) in one position and high in the other.
could be neautral safety switch ours does this and we have to pull it out of park and put it back into park or hold the shifter lever up while turning the key the sec light should go out if it starts. ours does.
You culd be having more than one problem. First if you are having problem putting the car in park. The car may not actually be fully in park and therefore the neutral safety switch is active and telling to car you are in revers or in gear. If this is true then your car won't start for safety reasons. Try putting it in Neutral and see if it starts then. Ormay have a neutal safety switch that is bad. Can you hear the starter click when you turn the key to start?
