its your distributer cap, have someone look at it while you crank it and ask if they see any sparks, if its crack "just from age, or whatever the case" the plugs wont fire right causen it not to start, 20 doller project an it took me one hour, if its the problem you can do it yourself.. i think that may be your prob. it was mine and my 01 diamante ls wouldnt start in the rain or cold either

SOURCE: 2003 mitsubishi diamante thermostat

You're going to lose some coolant, so have a bucket or other container ready. Follow the upper radiator hose to the point where it's connected to the engine. The hose is clamped to a metal housing which is bolted to the engine. Remove the bolts (not the hose) and lift the housing to expose the thermostat (may require a little prying with a screwdriver or similar tool). Note how the old thermostat is fitted (which end is up), lift it out of the engine, and then remove all traces of gasket from the housing and the engine. Install the new thermostat and gasket, replace the bolts, add coolant as necessary, and you're done.

Where is the passing gear on a 2003 Mitsubishi Diamante

'Passing gear' is a term that means the transmission is down-shifted to a lower gear (e.g., from 5th gear to 4th gear) for improved acceleration to pass another vehicle. There is no physical component called a passing gear in the transmission.
To engage the 'passing gear' with an automatic transmission should require nothing more than pressing the accelerator pedal down firmly. The transmission should downshift automatically to the next lower gear (sometimes it will downshift two gear ratios, depending on your speed and how far you depress the accelerator pedal).

Problem with electronic throttle control maybe. Any light's lit on the instrument cluster or messages engine power reduced . Could be a sign a position sensor is going bad . The gas pedal assembly has to sensors as does the throttle body . You could try cleaning the throttle body bore . Having a qualified repair shop hook up a diagnostic scan tool to view sensor data would be a good thing .

I have a 2003 excursion 6.0 diesel engine cuts out at 60-70 mph

Whne I worked at Ford , they had problems with the accelerator pedat electronic switch. The pedal is not connected to the engine with a cable, but with an electrical connection. You would have to have a scanner put on your vehicles computer and check for any trouble codes. Also give the Ford dealer your VIN # and they can check for recalls for that problem.

2001 Mitsubishi Diamante won"t start after replacing a bad fuel pump. Does the car have a relay for the fuel pump.

try holding down the throttle all the way when starting (thinking it might be flooded from overpumping the accelerator)

remember the computer automatic puts a shot of fuel in the car when you try to start (no need to pump)
