To bobby posting to 2009 post, why piggly back.. his car is not yours, nor same cause, causes are vast.
why can only be known if what is wrong is known , its not here.

first off if the trans overheated, most time the engine did first.
they are connected 2 ways thermally, metal and the cooler.
the cooler also heat the transmission .
so if the engine overeheats you can lay odds so did trans,
so lets forget all that.
dead car , stalled, or F.O.R.D found on road dead.

1: are all fuses good. we test them.
2: does the engine crank over?, if not? turn engine crank front bolt by hand see if its seized.
3: are battery lugs clean.? or green,
4: are head lamps bright (key is not needed to do that) are they.? radio work , dash lamps glow key on.(the row of warning lamps all glow on all cars key on, lamp self test its is) do they>?
5: does car crank with jumper cables (AAATOW)
?????
6: if it dont jump start, the crank using the rules in your operators guide, it states how to crank in NEUTRAL, crank now? y/n./?
Neutral uses fresh contacts and will crank now.
(mostly virgin contact ,now) (TRS Switch failure)

if still no joy, then the key line is dead. all above fails.
if you hot wire the starter (ask) and that works then the KEY line is dead, if it does not crank now, the starter is dead (battery good)
, all this is standard partices.

green lugs is really first if ignored they are.

we've posted the 4 ways, 100s of times now.
again/.
1: scan tool push reset.
2: pull the PCM memory fuse, IOD (name of fuse)
3: pull neg battery term for 5min, and mess up radio, and things.
4: drive them off per the SM the service manual tells you how to drive off each DTC, both time and number of trips.

Location of speed sensor 96 Jeep Cherokee

which one?
if the rear transmission, it just is a conn, and 1 screw.
a 96 -2006 sure.
42RE transmission or what? there are 2.
why not post the DTC error so we can be on the same page,?
page 191 covers it here , under tranny

some cars have up to 4 speed sensors, 2 on engine and 2 in tranny.
so... guessing page p191 tail
there is also a backup sensor for that. so.....
post DTC error and WIN, speed sensors means zero.
my guys is net rumor told you trans shifts bad and is VSS bad?
or did you scan it and see a live error, DTC,
that be best, not rumors, (and do clean it and retest )

How do you install transmission lines in 2005 grand cherokee 5.7?

First, use flair nut wrenches on all fittings. Anything with a hex-nut style reciever needs use of a back up wrench there to prevent twisting the reciever out of the component. Run lines same as they were installed. If impossible, use care to avoid inteference with anything and protect with rubber tubing, anywhere vibration wear can happen. If you can't get to fittings on trans, either lower it or cut lines with tubing cutter, using compression fittings to re-connect. It's not terribly difficult but requires some reasonable care to aviod future problems. Note: anywhere you connect to a rubber hose, use high pressure fuel line type mini-clamps, 2 @ each end.
good luck
