Pull a plug wire , set the end close to the engine, crank it and watch for spark. No spark could be the cranks sensor, wires, ignition module , fuse, or PCM. Have the codes read. Could be the fuel pump too. I have had them die shortly after installs.
the valves can be open if the cam is still in the head, if you remove the cam and any of the valves are open they are probably bent, this can happen if the timing belt is out of time the pistons hit the valves, if that's the case have the valves replaced and check the heads for damage, the replace head and new timing belt, making sure the timing is correct
You can have the coil and module tested at most auto parts stores. The module provides the ground signal to the coil. It could also be the pickup coil in the bottom of the distributor.
Sounds like moisture got to the injection system. Put some good fuel treatment in along with more gas and it should take care of it. Also, check air filter for restrictions. Sometimes rodents build a nest in the filter box.
You basically had a intermittent problem,If anything it probably was not the fuel pump, In order for the fuel pump to turn on the ECM, needs to see a crank value, of 250 RPM or the fuel pump will not turn on, what gives this it is the crank sensor,The crank sensor does age and when it goes out you can be driving down the freeway and all of a sudden the car stalls, and it doesnt start up,
I saw something similar to this on a 1991 dodge van a few days ago.. turns out it was the battery. It was odd, because it cranked over fine and had spark and fuel, but would not start. If your battery is good, then confirm that your fuel pressure is ok
