Why does the Cruise control on my 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada stick?

totally unsafe and bogus now. a real man killerr'(ask Toyota why) grim.
4.3L engine?
ask Oldsmobile Bravada, maker for RECALLS in that
it needs one for SURE so ask them.?
the brake , reset must work or is and illegall unsafee device.
let me see why.
about year 2000 the old wild cable drive , CRUISE ended, and lots of crashes .,ended with that event. ,
modern cars fixed this danger with TBW, throttle by wire.
the ABS fuse 22 must be good or stop switch to cruise fails
this car has a CCM. cruise control module+cable and motor driven. cable.

your TB throttle body has cruise control servo motor
the cable is bad, sticks&rusty , I'd remove it and live a long life
on your next newer care the PCM sees this event and goes t0 max 20mph limphome mode, safer.
i'd pull off the cruise cable and retire the beast.
the CCM can not correct a rusty cable. so is a danger to lives and limbs.
be safe and live long, mate.

What causes cruise control to shut off after a short period of operation

I would start with the cruise control relay first ! it may be getting hot and shutting down. Then check the cruise control fuse. If all is ok! Then purchase a Haynes manual for your specific vehicle. It shows a lot of info, for your vehicle. You can get the manual at any auto parts store for about $ 20.00. God- Bless! Hope this helps.

My 2011 Sonata cruise control stops working going down steep hills. The set light goes off. I had it set at 50mph but applied brakes when it increased to 70mph. Dealership says they can find nothing...

going down steep hills will all but over ride a cruise control, since the motor is trying to keep the vehicle slowed to what your desired speed that you set , unfortunately this doesn't always work,, as your speed increases, the motor can't keep the speed reduced, when you apply the brakes, the system shuts off, cruise controls were meant to be used pretty much on long flat surfaces with Low inclines ,,

Cruise control doesn't work

usually that would mean your losing your vacuum pressure. you need to look at you vac hoses for holes keep in mind it can be a hole as small as .4mm so if the hose looks dryrotted then suggest replacement
