Possible crank angle sensor inside the distributor or ignition coil. Check for any codes. The crank angle sensor may set a code but not turn on the check engine light. If a code present for this sensor, the entire distributor will need replacement. ( common problem ). The ignition coil is also in the distributor. The coil will need testing when the vehicle is in the no start condition.
Jim, this may be something I call VaporBlock:
Try several things:
When you've started the car (in the morning) let it idle (or drive it around the block a couple of times or so -- to get it warmed up -- I mean HOT) then turn if OFF;
and, wait 10 minutes - then try to start it...
IF it starts after the first 10 minute; then, it is NOT VaporBlock, and you'll need to drive it to a mechanic.
I this doesn't start, wait 30 (additional) minutes - then try to start it...
IF it doesn't start the after the first 10 minutes or 30 minutes; then, you may have to wait and hour -- and try it again, because you have VaporBlock.
You will have to find the "sweet-spot" of time to wait before trying to start it, or take it to a mechanic to get this issued fixed.
I used to pack my carburettor with snow to cool it down when I really needed it start again in a hurry!
I do hope this helps...
