What causes my car to stop running while being driven?

Could be almost anything.
If it cranks good but, won't start, make sure battery has a full charge. Don't crank the starter more than a few seconds at a time, let it cool off. Have helper crank it, while you visually check for spark at the spark plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Also, check fuel injector pulse, do testing with engine cranking.
How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes?

98 Chevy 1500 Running down road dies Has fuel. Has spark.

If it has spark to the plugs, normal compression, and fuel, it should start. So assuming it does have normal compression, I would want to know if it will try to start by spraying carb cleaner into the throttle body to substitute the injector spray. One of the three components is missing.
Another thing to check is the distributor cap and rotor to make sure spark is reaching all of the plugs at the right time.

Why would my1999 s10 start missing out going down the road ?

Check fuel pressure to see if a fueling problem. Some stores rent or loan fuel pressure gauges. Check for possible trouble codes that may indicate a problem.

Gas, air, spark, and compression- one of them is wrong or missing for the engine to misfire.

1992 isuzu pickup,2.6 engine , surges up and down after 10 minutes then shuts off

1992, PICKUP, in USA? what country , ? cars are not same all over earth. sorry.
engine surges, then stalls. correct.>?

nice testing , rare here, real nice !!!!
spark good as it stalls
so if engine is ok, compression, (seems cat is not melted with 20 " HG)
is flooding or starving for fuel,.
one or the other, you can find that out.
if spark timing was ok, then the belt did not slip. on cam)
leaving only fuel issues.
so DO the magic , WOT, cranking trick this trick (logic in ECU)
cuts the injectors dead, cranked, to unflood all engine with EFI.
do that?
check spark tips, for 3 to 4 hours dead.? be next
2.6L (is 4 cylinder.) is cam belt drive, i never fail to check it first
the fail, at 60k miles, all do. all rubber band engines do.,

if all this is ok, not flooding
one can start engine with test fuel, and even keep it running
even with (hint) fuel pump relay pulled.
if that works, the fueling is wrong.
injectors leaking,? ?
if only one spark tip is wet , soaking in fuel, Injector issues.

when it stalled pull all 4 plugs and look at the tips.
(if cam is timed right) be super super first thing, on this 4 banger.

1989 chev pu engine stopped as I was driving down road it has 60,000 mile on it I thought it might be the injection module so I replaced it and it was not the problem need help and thanks it has a 350...

When an engine stops running it is either lacking spark (at the right time), fuel, or compression. When in your situation, I first check for spark by removing a plug wire and (while the engine is cranking over), watching for an ark (or spark). The spark should be blue/white not yellow/orange.

If no spark, repost your findings here. There are a few items of concern in the distributer that may need to be checked such as the distributer cap, ignition coil, rotor, and the ignition module. Also locate your pickup coil inside the distributer (beneath the rotor) and check for broken wires. Also inspect the reluctor wheel for cracks in the magnetic portion of the star shaped area.

If you have spark, use a timing light and check to see if it is firing at the correct time. See your tune up data for correct specs on ignition timing. (I think it may be at Top Dead Center.)

If you have Good Spark, and it is in time, try priming the engine by adding a small splash of fuel down the throttle body/carb/intake system.

If adding fuel causes the engine to fire and actually run ok for a short period of time, then look deeper into the fuel delivery system. Start by checking the fuel pressure, fuel pump, fuel filter, regulator, pump fuse /relay etc.

If after adding fuel it still does not start, check the cylinder compression to rule out any more complex mechanical problems.

Please repost your findings for a more precise diagnosis.

Please let me know if this helps amd Good Luck!!

I replaced fuel pump , coil, pickup coil, rotor, distribitor cap, fuel filter, and fuel lines. why does it keep shuting down? had the same problem before, and the last thing i put in was the pickup coil.

I need to know if it has a carb or fuel injected. When it shuts down do you have spark check it with an old spark plug hooked to the wire and grounded to the engine. When it shuts down does it squirt gas down the carb when you move the linkage Or when you crank the engine can you see fuel going down the throttle body
