How do I check the starter relay?

The car is not starting, not even turning over. I replaced the positive battery cable and battery. I'm hoping it's the relay and not the starter itself. If it's a solenoid, where on the starter is the solenoid?

2001 chevy tahoe want start i just replaced the starter and nothing happened

Probably should check to see if there is power going down threw the small wire on the starter solenoid when the key is turned to the start position, that be a good place to start. Double check the battery cables, make sure they are in good shape, clean and tight. If there is no power to the small wire on the starter solenoid, it may be the starter relay, or even an ignition switch.

1998 ford mustang no start just a single click

If the starter is clicking when you turn the key that means it is getting power. It could possibly be a bad new starter but before taking it out and testing check your battery and ground connections. Make sure they are clean by using some sand paper. There is also a ground wire that hooks to engine make sure it is hooked up and not corroded. Even though you bought a new battery make sure it is fully charged. Remember to remove the ground from battery before taking any positive wires off. Hope this helps.

My 1999 cougar clicks but wont start up when i turn key

first make sure battery is charged if so then then check the relay in the fuse box under the hood find the relay that marked "ing" pull that relay then find a nother one to inter change with it, if car still wont start then ou will need to see if the in line fuse on the starter wire is good or blown if its good then you will need to pull the starter and replace it. hope this helps you

2005 honda civic VP bad starter replaced still engine not turning over

Check the ground connection on the battery and the frame. Make.sure the battery posts are clean and free from corrosion. Most likely it's the ground on the frame

2003 ford explorer wont start hear a click under the hood, i tried to jump it and it wont start. do u think it needs a starter?

Go under the car and have a helper hold the key in the start position while you probe the wire to the solenoid for 12 volts, also do a voltage test on the positive battery cable and inspect it at the battery for acid intrusion near the positive battery post clamp, if acid has gotten into the cable the outer insulation will appear swollen and the cable must be replaced, this is a common cause of no starts on Explorers.

Maybe the ignition is bad- or your starter solenoid stuck in engaged position?

My starter still will not disengage on my 98 dodge caravan even when the key is turn in the off position. have to remove the battery cable in order to get it to stop turning over the motor

So, what did you find when you checked the starter relay? Either the relay has the contacts stuck closed or the wire between the relay and the starter is shorted to battery voltage. If it stops cranking when you pull the relay out, then the relay is at fault.

Car not cranking

Check all fuses relays(starter relay) if bench tested or jumped starter to see if worked but won't engage when in car or from ignition, make sure the grounds for starter and battery are good and clean. After that check your starter relay. I hope this helped you out a bit. It would greatly apprecciate if you rated my answer. thanks MIKE-
