This can occur if there is a blockage in the heater rad, or the blend door actuator that regulates air temperature into the cabin is malfunctioning, or the cooling system thermostat is malfunctioning. You can check by carefully feeling both heater hoses under the hood after the car has been run for a while - if one is hot and the other is cold, it's a blockage. If both are cold, check the thermostat. If both are relatively hot, it's usually the actuator.
The issue could be an air bubble in the system or a faulty thermostat. If you have had the car out on a trip long enough for it to over heat an air bubble will be less likely. Re-check your coolant level, it will show a lower level if there was a bubble.
A simple test for the thermostat is this. When the engine is cold run it at idle speed until it is at working temperature. This will stop the engine heating up too quickly and will take at least five minutes.
Turn the engine OFF and open the bonnet, (the hood). CAREFULLY feel the large pipes going to and from the radiator. Both should be hot. If the top one is still cold your thermostat is probably faulty.

When the engine gets hot enough to stop the A/C from working.. you do have some issues,.. When the thermostat was replaced, was the entire coolant system reverse flushed and cleaned out? If no, its time for a full reverse flush and clean, new thermostat and coolant!
The thermostat controls the discharge temperature by using the compressor to cool and mixing hot water from the engine to match the setting. When you select AC, it enables the compressor to run from the thermostat. Else, only outdoor air is available.
The thermostat is bad,replace. Also, if coolant is dirty looking, you might want to take it to a garage and have the coolant system flushed. Good luck!
The air is mixed and routed inside the dash by some flaps. In your case the flap that regulates the mixing of hot and cold air for the passenger side is broken or stuck in the cold position.
The only way to fix that is to remove the dash , access the air system and fix the flap.
REPLACE THERMOSTAT.MAKE SURE COOLANT SUPPLY PIPE OR COOLANT RETURN PIPE NOT STOPPED UP AND YOU HAVE ENOUGH COOLANT IN THE SYSTEM.REPLACE THERMOSTAT.CRANK ENGINE UP AND LET IDLE UNTIL WARM UP KEEP EYES ON TEMPERATURE GAUGE. WHEN ENGINE THERMOSTAT OPEN COOLANT HOSE SHOULD BE HOT.IF NOT TURN OFF ENGINE.USE LARGE RAG WAIT A WHILE BEFORE REMOVING RADIATOR CAP CHECK TO SEE IF COOLANT LEVEL DROPPING IF SO ADD MORE COOLANT.CRANK ENGINE UP UNTIL THERMOSTAT OPENS UP.HOSE WILL GET HOT.IF STILL COLD CHECK COOLANT LEVEL.ONCE YOU AIR OUT COOLANT SYSTEM RADIATOR HOSES WILL GET HOT SO YOU WILL GET HEAT.IF COOLANT LOW YOU WONT GET NO HEAT.
Sounds simple like just your thermostat needs replaced. Tell your boyfriend to open the hood and locate the biggest hose coming off the top of the radiator and follow that hose into the engine block. Right there where the hose goes into your engine, there is a semi-bell-shaped housing with 3 little 5/16" bolts on it. Take those bolts out. Be careful right here because there is water in that hose and it will spill out. Inside that housing is your thermostat. Pull the old one out, clean up the flange faces where they will bolt back together with a putty knife or a piece of sandpaper, being careful not to let any particles get in the water or the hose. Then just put the new thermostat in, (make sure it goes in the correct way as it has to open the correct way to let the warm water through), replace the gasket, (the gasket should come with your new thermostat) and bolt it back together. The new thermostat should be available anywhere, from your local auto parts store, to the local NAPA, AutoZone, even WalMart, for about $10 or $12. Good luck!
try getting your aircon regassed if its not blowing cold air, the thermostat dosent have anything to do with the cold air, only the hot air hope that helps
um...strange ...engine temp reaches 210 before thermostat opens and lets water circulate ..fans go on before that normally..180 or so..hot air from heater going to cold air? strange...could you elaborate for me /us?
