perhaps i missed something here... lowbeams and daytime lights are about the same.... be that as it may... the merely obvious thing is that the low beams are burnt out.... next thing would be that the relay for the day time lights could be defective... it's often mounted on the firewall.

i would chk. break light switch. should be under dash above break pedel arm. emergency flashers will be on its own fuse, turn signals should have own fuse. as far as interior lights surging that could be ground or alt. chk. battery cables make sure clean and tight. not good idea unhooking bat. cable when running, one spark or surge to computer could burn up computer. besides that realy won't tell you anything if a diod is bad in alt. it may not show up until you tax the system. its best to take it someware like autozone, or any major auto parts store and have it chk.

Hiya...
When this happens, it means one or two of the halogen headlight bulb(s) has been burnt-out.
Do this quick and easy self-test:
Turn on the headlight switch to LOW and see if you see one (or none) turns on...you'll know one or two lightbulb(s) need to be replaced....this is why the green headlight logo flashed to tell you that a bulb has just burnt-out.
You'll need to remove the 4 black plastic clips that holds the top grille bracket frame onto the top metal frame that's facing the top radiator area.
If you know which headlight's bulb need replacing, just remove the 3 bolts...two are on top and one is by the side (close to radiator area)
Then you pull the grille toward you gently to allow your hand to access behind the grille and headlight area to reach the white socket that's connected to the headlight bulb.
This requires some patient as it's a tight area for your fingers to wiggle the socket off.
When the new lightbulb is installed, the green headlight logo will appear in the instrument panel when you start the engine.
That'll help!

Sounds like your immobilizer is activating. Try another key or you need to take it to a vw dealer for diag and adaptation.

check to see if something is blocking the daylight sensor on the dash. If it is not being blocked check to see if the relay for the automatic lights is stuck. If any of these issues are happening then the headlights would be on switching off the daytime running lights
