SOURCE: BOTTOM RAD HOSE COLD TOP HOT. ENGINE TEMP ABOUT

Did you burp the air out of the system after changing those parts? It sounds like the thermostat isn't opening which is why the lower hose is still cold. Click my screenname, go to my tips and tricks, and choose the one about burping the cooling system - it may help you out.

Why is my dodge ram overheating?

Sensor would just cause a check engine light and radiator caps hardly ever go bad. It's possible you put the thermostat in upside down. Also possible that a hose is clogged. More than likely you have a massive air bubble trapped in the engine block.

I would check the operation of the thermostat in the engine . I suspect it is not operating correctly hence the variation of heater temp

RAM 1500 4.7 Now over heats up hills.I replaced the water pump because it was leaking from the weap hole, then it was over heating up hills i replaced the thermostat it still over heats up hills. How do I...

I think this uses a fluid filled thermally controlled clutch. When the engine is cold, (and OFF), you should be able to move the fan easily by hand. Once the engine has warmed up to normal temp, park it, shut off the engine, and again try to move the fan. It should be very firm compared to when cold. (Don't push too hard on it, you can bend the blades.)

A bad fan clutch usually shows up as overheating during idle and stop-and-go driving, however. At a steady speed of above about 35 MPH, you don't need the fan. So if you are going up the hills at more than 35 MPH, I'd suspect the radiator might be somewhat plugged. You can try having it pressure flushed (that might help) but if not, you might have to replace the radiator. Try to get a higher capacity (more cores) radiator.

2001 dodge 1500 ram truck - acts like it is over heating - BUT - the temp. gauge does not raise, there is no evidence of leaks under the truck, around the hoses or thermostate - the themostate opens like...

does your temperature indication needle start at cold and then rise to normal operating temp? What symptoms are displayed by the vehicle that give you the assumption to overheat? Even though your coolant is full and working properly, how old is the oil? Also check the quantity to make sure the engine is getting lubrication. If it is cold where you live, you may have to get a block heater so the vehicle doesn't dry start where the oil is like a gel, and doesn't adequately lube the engine on start up. If your oil and coolant capacities are correct, and you tested your thermostat by boiling it or however you did, the vehicle should be be fine.

Also consider your water pump and fan. If it is electric make sure it is operational when your vehicle is hot, if it is a clutch fan, make sure when the engine is off it doesn't spin easily. If you are getting ample heat from your vents inside, your water pump should be circulating water. Check these and if it still doesn't work get back to me via email.

2002 dodge 1500 Changed radiator, thermostat, and hoses. No heat

Why was radiator replaced?Did it have heat before ? If it was plugged, the heater core may also be plugged. Try flushing it with a water hose in both directions. I dont know why the botton radiator hose would be cold, the radiator should be a uniform temp and the air coming through the radiator should be HOT, when the engine is at operating temp. What condition was the old coolant? if it was rusty, the water pump may have lower flow than normal.

I have a 2000 dodge dakota sport. 4.7 v8 auto 4x4 and it has been overheating. i flushed radiator. still overheats. i have been told 2 diff locations of the thermostat so i just need to know where it is...

1. Is fan turning when engine runs?
2. Is belt in place to turn the water pump?
If so, sounds like most likely a thermostat problem, thermostat is normally located at the end of the hose that runs from the radiator to the top of the engine, or more appropriately, the water pump.

2004 dodge ram overheating??

Hi,
Engine overheating?
1. Coolant level at cold
2. Coolant leak check for loss of, during "not hot" running condition. (water pump, hoses)
3. Replace the thermostat. It's inexpensive and easy enough to do.

Hope this helps... Good luck!

Overheating/Loss of power

Unless water pump bearing is loose or noisy or the pump is leaking, that's not your problem. Have the system flushed. Thermostat is also likely not the problem but with repeated overheats or near-overheats it will become unreliable so change it as a precaution.
