John Deere eztrak mower went over a rock today and now the mower won't engage

hmm strange are the belts driving the blades ok if so then the PTO could be damaged but if there's no sign of damage it maybe a bit frozen up/locked up have the engien off but turn the key on and engage the PTO switch and manually turn the PTO (not by the blades please....dont want to have your hand taken off) turn by the PTO itself and if you hear any clicking sound disengage the PTO and engage a few times to ensure your hearing the clicking sound of the PTO turning on and off and it should be back to normal also check any connections going to the PTO before doing the manual work of repairing the PTO

I have a 52" Husqvarna LGT 2654 riding lawn mower and when I engage the blades, the belt does not turn the pulley system. What could be causing this, the pulley idlers, or the belt?

depending on the age of the machine, there could be several possibilities
1-- belts are not tight enough--- belt tension system is not correct, wrong length belts
2--bearings for the shafts for the blades are rusted up and seized - preventing the blades from moving--- switch the machine off , disengage the belt drive and see if you can turn the blades by hand
3--- if you have an electric pto system to drive the belts to the blades then that system is not getting full power to engage the PTO or the clutch is not working--worn facings
take it to a service dealer and have a proper diagnosis done

PTO turns without mower shaft inserted. Mower blades turn when rotating shaft by hand. Slide shaft back into PTO and nothing is turning. Belts on mower deck look ok.

Sounds like your magnetic clutch is not fully engaged or slipping and cannot handle the load of the mower deck..try this...Using a good pair of snug fitting gloves..with the engine in its lowest idle position and the shaft out of the clutch turn on the clutch..now carefully see if you can manually stall ( make the clutch slip) if it does sip or stall it needs replaced.just be careful....good luck..

On my 42in cut hydro. Husqvarna, The mower will not disengage until the speed is reduced to a low idle

Before you do anything else check to make sure the blades are engaged on thier seat ( the star) and the blade bolts are tight.
If you have an electric PTO this does not apply to you.
After confirming that your blades are tight check the operation of the PTO cable and the pivot bracket by lowering the deck all the way. Laying on the ground on the discharge side of the mower you will be able to look at the components and see and touch whats not moving freely as you engage and disengage the PTO lever. Look for a stiff PTO cable, stiff pivot bracket, missing return spring, broken spindle brackets and broken deck bracket welds.
Of course you should never work on any mechanical device while it is running.

PTO not working

You have snapped the shear pin that is in the drive pulley. You have to remove the pulley that spins on it's shaft off and put a new shear pin into it. I have replaced several myself. The shear pin is a protection to prevent costly breaks.

Pto will not disengage

first unplug the switch and see if it still operate then disconnect the spark plugs then turn the blades threw the discharge opening and see if the engine rotates when moving the blades this will tell you if the clutch is stuck then connect the spark plug wires back on and next to the engine base you will find a 2 wire connector that feeds the clutch power and ground unplug that connector and start the mower see if the blades turn this will tell you if you have a mechanical failure if it does not operate with the wires unplugged its a electrical

I see this problem not as an electrical but a seize problem. Since I can't be there to inspect I am relying on your discription of the problem. I would go first to the place of the problem. If this solenoid goes up to disengage and down to engage ,or the opposite, this is most likely your problem area. It may be seized in the disengaged position therefore not allowing the blades to get spinning. Disconnect the belt and try to turn unit by hand, if tight or completely stuck use penetrating oil on pulley shaft. If shaft loosens up and blades engage this was the problem. Is there a grease fitting anywhere in the area?I hope this at least gets you started in the right direction. GOOD LUCK.

You can check the clutch by taking a wire from the ground and a wire from the positive side of the battery and energizing the clutch directly with the belt off to see if thats it. It could simply be a wire loose in the connection on the clutch....their soldered on.
