My Miata was missing intermittently. I replaced coil packs, spark plugs, wires. the miss went away. then a code came up indicating cat convertor wasn't functioning. I replaced it,along with both O2 sensors. the crank and cam position sensors have also been replaced. fuel pressure is perfect, btw
Check compression. After spark and fuel, compression is next on older cars.
Testimonial: "I will;doubtful, since car only has 45K on it. it runs smoothly for the first few minutes until emissions goes into closed loop."
Then don't. Closed loop is electrical problems. Check grounds. Main three are battery to body, battery to engine and engine to body. Yours is most likely a fuel pump to ground problem. Could also be a ECM ground problem. Seems you have a scanner? If so. Watch the ECM ground when it goes to closed loop. If it jumps up, check the wire for the ECM ground and engine to body ground. ECM grounds at the body.
