The splash guard on front driver side came off while I was in a puddle about a foot high and car totally stalled. tried starting the car about 5 times before received a push out. waited about half hour still no engine start. it is now about 12 hours later and I have the hood up hoping to dry out. is there anything else I can do?
The engine most likely stalled due to the exhaust system being under water. When this happens the engine can't breathe properly and will stall. The vehicle may be flooded. Try holding your foot to the floor and cranking the engine to help clear a flooding situation. There may have also been some electrical that has gotten wet as well but it should be dried out by now as it is designed to operate in wet/rainy conditions

I did try what you are saying. I also did think it may have flooded. However, it not make any difference. The Vue still did not start. I was informed by a satrurn mechanic that for some reason, I still am not able to understand, the thermostat is the cause for the issue?????? Very strange, and I will be amazed if this does correct the issue. The temp gauge is reading normal when the car dies.

Sounds exactly like what I was dealing with a while ago. A nuisance (especially at fuel stations & such, where if you don't get it right away you end up looking like an idiot as it just turns over & over).
For me, it was my fuel filter. The previous owner had neglected the car so much & I had no idea how long it had been. $50 at an Oil Can Henrys & it was all back to normal. Great first step.

Your problem is most likey your intake gasket. They have a problems on the SOHC engines where the intake gasket shifts & starts leaking vacuum at the #1 intake runner causing a missfire on Cylinder #1.While the engine is Idling buy some throttle plate cleaner & spray throttle cleaner down at the #1 Intake runner where the intake meets the head.If engine stalls or runs rougher that's your problem.I have replaced dozens of those gaskets for tha reason!! They have a beter design gasket through saturn parts. It has a coating on it to prevent reoccurance. Also you should check you Coolant Temp Sensor,if it's ceramic it's most likely bad.Replacement is brass from saturn.Good Luck

my only guess is a vacuum hose leak. possibly a loose air filter housing, or the mass air flow sensor. look for any hoses unplugged. if nothing is noticed, try cleaning out your fuel system. if that doesnt solve it, then it would be something an experienced mechanic would have to come and examine it personally.
