Procedure to reset security so that when I turn the key the starter will start the van

your anti theft device is activated,you need to lock and unlock your doors a couple times with the key fob,not the key,and then you need to put the key in the ignition and start it,if you dont have your key fob,call your car dealer to get a new one,they are programmed for each car only,you cannot bypass it.....

sounds like you need a new ignition, reason nothing works cause once it doese turn over n starts the car the tumbler is stick in the starting position jus not far enough to keep the starter engaged but far enough the it still trying to go trough the start process which cuts the power to everything else till the ignition returns to the on postion

did you try jus turning the ignition far enough to when the starter engages jus let go of it so the car doesnt start and see if everything else still doesnt work if it dont i belive its the igniton

also with out starting it or engaging the starter as in just turning the key on to get power does anything work?

Leave the ignition key on for 10 minutes until the security light goes off. You may have to do this three times for a 30-minute total for a relearn procedure

First thing i would check is the security system. If the battery is good, and it feels like everything is normall except it just wont crank. It could be the security or the starter. Put your key in and try to start it, when it doesnt start, look for a light on the dash that says SECURITY this is a dead give away and you could find all the answers you may need on this link http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

Is the security light flashing when you are trying to start? May have a passlock issue if the reset process did not work.

It's going to have to be looked at. But you can try unlocking a different door with the key. Hold it to the left (unlock position) for 2 or three seconds. Should shut off the alarm and allow you to start it.

If the starter motor remained engaged when you released the key, the underlying cause is likely a bad starter solenoid (first item the positive battery cable connects to after the battery) Remaining engaged, can damage the starter itself. Replace the solenoid, check the starter and you should be finished. (Or also replace the starter if it was damaged)
If the starter was stuck and not engaging, the bendix drive inside the starter has failed...In that case it's best to change the starter as even though it's replaceable, generally by the time it needs replacement the starter is worn in other areas and would need complete overhaul.

Does your key have a chip on it? If it does its probably the problem

does this van have one of those starter keys below the steering wheel under the dash?
if so the plug is out or not all the way in.

other wise you will need to jump start test the starter manualy down on the starter itself.

there is one small gauge wire going to the starter and and large gauge wire coming from the battery .unplug the small one and put a test light on the wire and turn the key to test for power.then test at the starter turn key off .

now cross the little side to the big side on the starter .there will be a spark but this should cause the starter to engage if its working ok.


using a few of these tests should fix this one ok.
if you dont turn the key off when testing the starter the only thing that will happen is the engine may start running on you.
make sure the brake is on and in park.
