your car is going into limp mode due to the code ---- https://www.carobdcode.com/p2647-toyota-vtec-oil-pressure-switch-circuit-high-voltage https://www.troublecodes.net/p2codes/p2647/ this is what your code means and what can be expected for repair bring to another dealer or mechanic for your second opinion
Because you mentioned tick over I am assuming this tends to happen as you change the position of the throttle which if electronic is a common cause of engine management light and limp mode.if you keep the throttle still whilst driving for any length of time ...you may again experience limp mode the minute you either slow or accelerate as the contacts in an electronic unit are intermittent.my cure is to switch off the engine and pump the throttle pedal hard all the way to the floor and releases several times .this seems to make the contacts connect more efficiently.if this is the culprit it may be worth replacing the throttle module.lastly any limp mode is always recorded on the ecu as an error code.if you want to get answers fast take it to a garage and have them OBD the car to confirm what's really going on.
The car is trying to tell you something - limp mode is there to protect the engine if a serious problem is detected. Stop driving it and get someone out to scan the codes and diagnose this.
When the engine goes to limp mode the Elect. throttle valve is of concern here. By turning off the vehicle you initialize the ETV. AGR valve is not the problem.Overboost problem I doubt it. Your problem may be in the ETV area. your taking it over 3000 your getting too much fuel and boost doesnt match. My experience only not a logic approach would center to diagnois the ETV.
Any time the transmission goes into the limp mode, it generates an error code that tells what caused it to go into limp mode. It could be something as simple as a loose connection on a sensor for the transmission computer. The code would explain which sensor was sending the correct signal.
By restarting the car you are resetting the transmission computer, clearing the limp condition.
