The airbag light on my 99 Dakota RT does not come on the cluster at all. The car was in an accident but the passenger airbag and computer were replaced as well as the clockspring. The car runs well.

Yes if the bulb fails to light it could be gone or someone might have disabled it to cover a fault. Or the ECU might be faulty. Sorry to give bad news hope it works out. Jim...

Take the ECU back Angel. It has nothing to do with the airbag system. Most likely someone has taken out the light since they didn't fix the problem. You didn't mention the the impact sensors were replaced.

  • angel vasilev May 22, 2015

The bulbs and fuses are all good. The computer was replaced and reset. Nothing has fixed the problem. I may just need to sell it as a parts car which is sad given it has 75k miles and has had ton of work done.

  • Randy Ohler May 22, 2015

Did you buy an ECU(engine control unit) or a security module? On older cars, some modules can be unplugged, so the light doesn't come on. If you paid a shop to fix this, sounds like they ripped you off.

Hi Angel it could be as simple as a bulb. You will need it diagnosed with a computer to be sure there is nothing else wrong. Regards Jim...

We checked all bulbs and fuses. When we tried scanning the computer it did not connect to the airbag system. It cleared all other codes.

  • jimcatherina May 07, 2015

Hi if the new computer in the car cannot be read there is a problem with it. I suggest you bring it back to the one who fitted it and ask that he fix it correctly. Best of luck.

  • angel vasilev May 07, 2015

I was thinking that if bad it will be illuminated rather than not come on at all. I have never seen this. I was told the ECU may be bad and bought one. Hopefully that solves it.

SOURCE: 2000 Chevrolet Malibu LS airbag problems

The passenger side airbag is a lot easier then driver side. Take the glove box out and you will see two 10mm bolts holding it in place. When you open the passenger side front door, remove the panel on the side of the dash and you will see yellow connectors. The 1 closest to the front is attached to the air bag, it is clipped into the frame. Just pull it loose and take it out and your done. For the Driver side, it takes a skinny T27 to remove the two star bolts, then just disconnect the horn red clip and ground and install new airbag. The module is located under the passenger seat, underneath the carpet. Kinda stupid but thats where its at. You also need to replace the front impact sensor located behind the grille on the back side of the metal bar to each side. Follow the hood latch down. Also just to make sure, you know to disconnect the battery before you do all this. You don't want new airbags to accidentally deploy.

SOURCE: BMW 745i airbag light. Told to replacing airbag clockspring

Hello , check the airbag contact sensor behing the grill assembley . They are located to the left and right of the grill almost to the headlight assemblies. Check the wires to them for corrosion and damage. Check the fuse as well. There should be an air bag testing wire or fuse in the fuse panel. DO NOT UNPLUG THE AIR BAG SENSORS OR HIT THEM !!

SOURCE: Flashing airbag light on 97 maxima.

To manually check air bag codes, turn the key On and push the driver's door switch (at the bottom of the B-pillar) 5 times or more within 7 seconds of turning the key ON. Then watch the air bag light flashing codes. The air bag light will come ON for 3 seconds and then give fast flashes if there is a code. Count the fast flashes as the code. So the air bag light on for 3 seconds and then 8 flashes is a code 8 for the passenger air bag circuit. after counting code clear codes and see if they come back

How to reset airbag light 2006 Mercury Milan and Ford Fusion

Which airbag light is on? The one on the instrument cluster or the one over the radio that says passenger air bag off? If its the one on the instrument cluster, then there is a system fault detected. If its the one that says passenger air bag off. Then the system thinks the right front seat is occupied but the weight is too low deploy the airbag.

Passenger airbag light is on

You need to get it checked out by the dealer or a certified shop. If that light is on there is a fault in the system and the airbag may not deploy in a accident. I would get it checked asap if you ever have passengers in that seat.

Airbag light reset sx4

There is a manufacturer's recall on this if it's caused by a failure in the front passenger weight detection system.

The system has a minimum weight required in the front passenger seat for the airbag to deploy in an accident (if no one is in the front passenger seat during an accident, the airbag does NOT deploy). If the system fails and the car cannot determine if someone is in the front passenger seat, the light illuminates and in an accident the passenger airbag WILL deploy, even if there's no one in that seat.

The purpose of the system is to prevent airbag deployment for a lightweight child in the front seat. The fix is to replace the seat weight sensor mat...free if it's the recall item.

I have a 97 dodge dakota sport and want to disable the passenger side air bag. Not sure which fuse cavity is for passenger side airbag 18 or 19? Do not want to pull wrong one

My 97 has a place in the dash under the radio to insert your ignition key
where you can turn the passenger side airbag off. If I were you i wouldnt pull the fuse for it because it could tell the computer that there is a problem that could
cause other problems. Just turn it off with your key.

Hello. I am unsure if the CITROEN dispatch van 2010 I am driving has a passenger side airbag and would like to disconnect the drivers side via the fusebox just to be sure. Could you help by telling me...

no this is an american web site and unless its dodge or a mustang its not listed ,good job you have europeon mechanics answering questions as the american mechanics have never heard of a real car like this .Now to disconnect the airbag system is not advisable and also if you were invvolved in a accident and the insurance assesor investigator found this you wouldnt get a brass farthing and if the essex police found you driving a vehicle like this i dont think you would have a licence for long .Now i dont think that the airbag system has a fuse on its own under the dash on such a late vehicle ,cant say i have done one as yet but i would suspect that it could be on the back of the fuse panel away from sight to stop people like you from disconnecting them or i9ts on the airbag module computer ,yes i know that some earlier models had a fuse but later cars have moved them just to confuse the issue to stop this sort of thing ,if you want to know if it has a passenger airbag just look for the on/off switch for the passenger airbag ,it will have one only if it has a passenger airbag

My SRS light comes on and off. I don't know what

It has to do with your airbags. Supplemental Restraint System. This light can be caused by a lot of things including any of the following:
  • Letting battery drain too low
  • Bad Sensor
  • Blown fuse
  • Unplugging the car’s battery
  • Removing the gauge cluster/installing aftermarket gauges
  • G-Force sensors that are under each of the front fenders ($250.00 each)
  • Bad clockspring (located inside your steering wheel)
  • Bad ECU
  • Bad reverse light switch on transmission
  • Car was in an accident
  • Airbag defective/unplugged
