Your getting plenty of gas(black smoke). check vacuum lines, Make sure the intake air plenum is tight(hose clamps) check the MAF sensor. After the check the fuel pressure regulator. This will dump gas into the intake also. After that go for the injectors. Stuck open will cause this.

SOURCE: Black smoke when i start engine, very rough idle.

sounds like possible a sensor went bad or is loosly connected. O2 sensor??? Also check the air filter. Sounds like whatever it is, is making the truck run rich----that would be the black smoke.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: was running fine then stalled suddenly. when it

I just had a similar situation. The truck would run fine and then the Service Engine Soon light would start blinking and the truck would go into "limp" mode. It would eventually stall. Strangley though, if I turned the key over and then restarted it, it would start right up and run again. It ended up being the IPDM (Intelligent Power Distribution Module) that was bad. It cost me $520 to replace it.

Car starts hard runs good on highway stalls if i dont keep my foot on gas have to push gaspeddl to floor to start replaced plugs wires also idle control in throtal body

So IAC has been replaced. Sounds like a dirty throttle body, EGR valve, or vacuum leak. DId you do the maintenance yourself. If so then you should be able to inspect Throttle Body to determine if black and dirty.. this can cause intake problems leading to your issue adn rough idle. EGR valve sends exhaust gas back into combustion chamber to reburn it and make car more environmentally sound. If stuck open it can allow too much exhaust into combustion chamber causign a lean mixture, too much air can cause this.. Vacuum leak can also allow too much air in. Start with easiest and check Throttle body, then EGR valve, finally for vacuum leaks. Depending on your skill the EGR can be cleaned as can the throttle body.. a good link for TB cleaning is http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/repair/1272341. A vacuum leak may be harder to diagnose. You are compensating by depressing gas pedal telling ECM to send more fuel to motor to overcome this issue thats why it will run and start with gas pedal pressed.

What are the symptoms if my car has a bad engine coolant temp sensor it is a 98 saturn sl1

More specifically you will have trouble starting the car. When the ECTS is bad the PCM reads it that the engine is at -40F. This means that it will dump tons of fuel into the engine in order to warm it up. You may also experience rough idling due to the rich fuel mixture and black smoke from the exhaust (which is an indication of running rich, burnt fuel).
