Can up country shocks be used on a non-up country suspension. Worried about the travel and collapsed measurements. Not enough travel or too little?

yes
you should be more worried about suspension damage that is cause by not having the full suspension travel available as designed by the engineers
it may look cool to have a lowered car but if the back is down and the front normal --the steering geometry is all wrong and tyres wear out quickly, vehicle stability is affected and the headlights shine directly into the eyes of oncoming drivers even on low beam

shock absorbers have to be the required engineered length as they have a measurement to operate in for the suspension travel
using any items of the incorrect length results in the shocky failure, (broken rod, rubbers, mount in body tearing out bending , jamming and stopping the suspension from working, loss of steering control), body damage , suspension failure
as shock absorbers have a working service life of less than 60,000 miles, ( less if used in off road situations) the use of used units is not recommended

A failed shock will not cause this (except maybe some off road air shocks). A collapsed suspension like that is due to a broken spring or separated suspension joint. Sorry, you can't drive it, towing is needed.

definetely shock absorbers! when they are getting old even they are not loosing oil, since they have been used on a pretty constant space(suspension travel) they start to be lazy on other suspension travel lenghts when riding on bumps and pits. they simply cant absorb as fast as the car rides on bumps. i suggest reasonably priced monroe sensatrac shock absorbers for daily driver.

plus,check your tire inflation and tire condition. (older tires get harder)

My suggestion to you and all the other folks leaving questions on this board about collapsed air suspension systems in luxury cars is to fix that one by replacing it with a real spring and shock system which you can buy at www.strutmasters.com if it is economically feasible, then sell it and avoid air suspensions systems like the plague. There are legions of old 70s Citroens still sitting idle 30 years later on collapsed air suspensions systems in garages and barns all over the country which cars the buyers can't let go because they cost so damn much. Get a coleman air mattress and use it every day, see how long it really lasts.

It depends on the amount of lift, but shocks don't take kindly to changes in the distance they have to travel in. They will at some point pull the mounting brackets off the truck. I have used this trick before. Mount the top of the proper shock on the truck and use a floor jack to raise the bottom of it to the mounting bolt height, then tap it on with a hammer.It will raise slowly because you are moving fluid through restricted holes but it should go if it's the right shock. The Shocks are Pressurized gas which leaks out very fast if the seal or hose is broken. I would suspect that the shock has leaked out and needs to be replaced.. The air bladders could also be broken if they are strictly air suspension. Usually air suspension is only an assist and never collapses even when all the air is gone. This could be after market full air suspension. Hope this helps
