How do I add freon to the A/C on my 1993 Subaru Impreza ?

My a/c stopped working (still blows, but not cold)
.
so I went to local napa and asked for freon and asked how to put it in

(not sure if "freon" is the exactly correct term... but you know what i mean... the gas in a can that makes your a/c run cold)

they showed me how, but said i could only add the freon when the compressor was running (the compressor does not run even when ac is turned to hi)

they said there is a safety switch of some type that keeps the compressor from coming on when it is completely out of freon.

they said i would need to find someone who could tell me how to "jump" the wires to bypass this switch and allow the compressor to run.

once the compressor is running, adding the freon seems to be a pretty straightforward proposition.

I am faniliar with the idea of using a short piece of wire to bypass safety switches, just not sure exactly which wires to jump.

Hi DO NOT BYPASS the tryrister switch!!!!!!!!!.

You can safely add R12 (freon) from a can with the system not running ,when you have enough gas and oil mix added to the system the compressor will stsart automatically the problem you have is not knowing if there is a leak in the system,as you need to check this as venting R12 to the atmosphere can land you in prison if caught !!!!,.The best advice I can give you is take the car to an Air-con specialist and he will carry out all the checks on the system for you and re-gas the system properly.

That's the most stupid thing I've ever heard! Nobody is going to put u in prison for doing that! Everybody bypassing the switch... you have to have the compressor running to add freon.

How to find a leak in 2004 Subaru Legacy AC System?

Most places offer an a/c performance check for about $30 plus freon. They will add a die to the system and then check for leaks. Once they find the leak they will give you an estimate for repairs. You can then decide if you want to proceed or do it yourself. This would be inthe best route to find the leak.

AC STOPPED WORKING....FAN WORKS BUT NO COLD AIR. rADIO STOPPED WORKING WEEK OR SO BEFORE THIS. cNA HEAR STATIC BUT NO RADIO STATIONS COME IN. aNTENNA SEEMS FINE. nOT SURE IF ANY CONNECTION sUBARU...

Hi!

Those 2 problems are certainly not related to each other. The only common thing is that both problems require proffesional to solve. Most probably the AC needs a freon refill.

Hope it helped,

My windows on my 1993 subaru impreza won't go down

if its just one window it could be the window motor / switch /window regulator but if its all of them its more likely a blow fuse or a bad relay check for blow fuses and you can check the relay by interchanging it with a know good one( for example if your horn works and the part number on the relay is the same as the window relay swap them and see if your window work the relay should be under the hood and the fuse box should tell you which relay is which

I have a 1993 subaru impreza 4 door L sedan with

mcdevito75 here, You"ll have to manually turn the camshaft gear and other gears to re align the marks, use the starter to align the crankshaft marks. Of course you"ll need the shop manual to show you these marks. Worse case, have the car towed to you local shop for repair.

In my 2004 wrx, the air conditioner will sometimes not blow cold air, does it mainly on hot days. its as if the compresser stops spinning on its own. the compresser was already siezed up and was replaced...

check the coolant pressure on the LOW pressure service port (where you put freon in). it sounds like your a/c was overcharged, and if so, you probably need another new compressor AND a new condensor. they sell gauges for checking this at autozone for 10-20 bucks each.......

Ac blows only hot air,how to fix

You need to check that the compressor is running, if this does not work could be due to lack of freon, electrical problems, if the compressor runs you can touch the thick tube that goes into the evaporator has to be cold, if cold and in the car does not come the cold is due to problems at the gate of the evaporator or problem in the control panel for air conditioning. Thanks
