My a/c stopped working (still blows, but not cold)
.
so I went to local napa and asked for freon and asked how to put it in
(not sure if "freon" is the exactly correct term... but you know what i mean... the gas in a can that makes your a/c run cold)
they showed me how, but said i could only add the freon when the compressor was running (the compressor does not run even when ac is turned to hi)
they said there is a safety switch of some type that keeps the compressor from coming on when it is completely out of freon.
they said i would need to find someone who could tell me how to "jump" the wires to bypass this switch and allow the compressor to run.
once the compressor is running, adding the freon seems to be a pretty straightforward proposition.
I am faniliar with the idea of using a short piece of wire to bypass safety switches, just not sure exactly which wires to jump.
Hi DO NOT BYPASS the tryrister switch!!!!!!!!!.
You can safely add R12 (freon) from a can with the system not running ,when you have enough gas and oil mix added to the system the compressor will stsart automatically the problem you have is not knowing if there is a leak in the system,as you need to check this as venting R12 to the atmosphere can land you in prison if caught !!!!,.The best advice I can give you is take the car to an Air-con specialist and he will carry out all the checks on the system for you and re-gas the system properly.
That's the most stupid thing I've ever heard! Nobody is going to put u in prison for doing that! Everybody bypassing the switch... you have to have the compressor running to add freon.
