Plug it in for sure.. Clear the computer first off. Take the sensor off and take WD-40 and spay it in the hole that the sensor covers.. There could be a build up between the sensor and the cam, OR you could have a crank sensor problem, check that after you clear the computer and clean the hole.
What year? What model? Jerking... when? Where do you feel the jerk? Do you have a "Check Engine" light on the dash?
You may have just lost a front axle. The rubber boot around the CV joint cracks, and dirt gets in and ruins the CV joint. This shows up as a sideways jerking in the steering wheel, rapidly getting worse and worse. It feels dangerous, and it IS dangerous. If it\'s allowed to continue, it could break the axle shaft - you certainly don\'t want that to happen on the highway.
If you\'re NOT talking about a sideways jerking in the steering wheel, please desribe what you DO feel, and when it happens, and if your "Check Engine" light comes on. It might possibly be nothing more serious than your air conditioner turning on & off.
chec fluid level or hav a filter/oilchange in the tranny--also ajust tv cable plus bands etc--get vehicle scanned--mite wnat to do a pressure chec at the gears--cud be a # of things autotrans r really complex
It sounds like its a coilpack. Its hard to say whick one, but it can have hot fire running slow. Then when the demand go's up and running faster it fails. So it might be a little expensive but I would go ahead and replace all of em. Prob lesss than 100 tho.
Is your check engine light illuminated? It sound to me that your speed sensor is defective. This is a very common condition or the ford taurus in the same year range.
