I'm getting a lot of clicking and grinding in the front end of my 97 Saturn sl1.. what could be the problem
When does it click and grind? accelerating? braking? going around corners?
It's continuously while driving,braking,and cornering.
Thanks for the help
If it gets worse turning left or right it's most likely a wheel bearing. If you turn left and noise gets worse, it's the right bearing ad vice versa for the left. When turning you put more pressure on the opposite side. If the noise is constant each way and only happens when going down the road, I would be looking at the transmission. Get the front tires off the ground(use jack stands) start the car and put it in gear, the noise will be less because there is no pressure/torque on the transmission and engine, But it will still be there. If you can't isolate the noise, I would pull the transmission pan off and check for metal. Could be small to big chunks in it. Either one is not good news. Good luck.
Well looks like I'm going to be tackling the hub assembly.

Its hard to say .I have to agree with pierre . IT could be the wheel bearings CV joints brake pads or something to do with the front end .Center link tie rod ends hare to say .
But if you hear clicking and grinding I would start by looking at things that spin first not to say it caused the problem but it is part of the problem .Look at the package as a whole it is a unit and needs to work together
Go under your car and grab a firm hand hold on the front stabilizer bar and yank on it. it should have two large rubber bushings where it is secured to the chassis. Next grab each tie-rod end, one at a time climbing under each side of the car, and do the same thing. It there is any loose movement, we call it "play" in the those parts, they will need replacement. The front stabilizer may need only need bushings. They are $13 at NAPA for both of them. Tie-rods are best replaced by a professional, who will need to do a complete front end alignment afterwards. Occasionally, the rack & pinion unit may go sour on you. If so, have the whole front end done in one shot, you will be glad you did as it will save you money in the long run. Do the shock test all around your vehicle too. It's easy: Just go to each corner and press firmly down and let go. The car should return to level condition after a movement of 1.5X the distance you depressed the shocks and struts (up front). If any wheel fails, you'll need to replace both shocks or struts on the failing axle. Shocks (rear) are easy to DIY. Front McPherson Strut units are more involved. You'll need plenty of space to work and a garage and jack stands to secure the front end off the ground enough to pull each strut out separately. It is easiest to buy a complete front strut assembly which includes the entire shock tower. Be sure you include new shock tower bushings when replacing them. Good luck to you!
Grinding could be your brake ,whell bearing clicking the stabilisator link are a very commom problem
Thanks for the help
no problem im here to help
And I know the passenger side wheel bearing was going out. Just didn't have the money to get it done lol..
you can still drive with a noisy bearing its not like the old days wheel would fall off before it get to that stage the noise gonna drive you crazy
Oh yeah it was noisy but I now what is the issue lol. Going to be doing the hub assembly in the morning.
