How and/or find detailed information with diagram for fuel pump sending unit and how to replacement it 2000 cavalier

Spencer, Check all fuses ,plugs and grounding at the tank.The sending unit module, inside the GM's gas tanks were notorious for going bad in this err, when you changed it did you use a quality part? Also the fuel pump sending unit plug/wire harnesses were known issues, so much that replacement pumps would often come with replacement plug to splice into existing harness. Hi Shelly,the fuel sending unit is intregated with fuel pump,so you will have to remove fuel pump to replace fuel sending unit,some new pumps come with fuel sending unit.They can be replaced separately,here's how.

the tank will have to be dropped to gain access to the pump as it sits in the top of the tank.support the tank,disconnect the fuel lines and vacume lines and any elctrical that you can get to.undo tank straps and lower tank disconnect the connector for the tank sending unit and any other vacume lines,remove tank from car and clean dirt from around the sending unit.remove lock ring that locks the unit to the tank and seals the unit.remove the sending unit from the tank.the pump is at the bottom of the unit,remove and replace the pump as it looks and reassemble and re-install in reverse order.don`t smoke around the car while doing the work.

pump is in the fuel tank and is part of the sending unit assembly(replaceable seperately). i was told this by a nissan dealer when my nissan was getting the sending unit recall done about a month ago. i asked them if since the sending unit was going to be new if it included a new pump, they said no, its replaceable seperately but it goes in the sending unit assembly.

Under the car, center, below seating area, front of fuel tank, mounted on the frame.

you have to remove fuel pump in gas tank.the fuel sender unit is on the fuel pump assembly.

remove the gas tank, undo the ring that holds the sending unit , replace fule pump and new sock filter, reinstall

Your best bet is to type it in to autozone.com and got to the repair section. it will tell you there.

more than likely it's the gauge it sets in a circuit board and sometimes the contacts get worn and with vibration it voltage spikes it and then it fails. very seldom is it the sending unit in the tank. please rate this...thanks
