SOURCE: alternator belt
you have to rent the serpintine belt removal tool from autozone, when you get that ask for a belt routing diagram..... it will show you how to do it.

I have a '95. It's behind the passenger side tire. Remove tire and rock guard if you have one--couple of screws--and you can easily access it. two bolts facing rear of car, two connections up front. Honestly it was the easiest replacement I've ever done. Just disconnect your battery first.

loosen the adj bolts and pry the alt to tighten the belt. if you are at the end of the slot, you will need a new belt.

More than likely the routing is incorrect, that can happen with serpentine belts since they go around many pulleys. There should be a routing diagram sticker in the engine compartment somewhere, follow that and make sure that the routing is correct. If you can't find the sticker then go to www.Autozone.com and they should have a belt routing diagram under repair manuals.

Check the battery, make sure it's full,(if it's not sealed) then check the batt. for 1 or more dead cells.
The test is done with a hydrometer, to test specific gravity. If you don't have one they are fairly cheap at
any parts store, but if your going to the parts store
anyway, they will do this test and a load test for free.
If the battery checks out ok, check the connections
at the alternator if they look good, you may have a
defective alternator. I forgot to mention, that if you
have to add water to the battery for the specific gravity test, you will have to wait 24 hours for an
accurate result. Hope this helps. Good luck.
