If you have changed the battery, have it load tested to make sure it is not defective.
A tech can also check the voltage output and regulator. I am assuming you have already had these two check done as well as ECM error codes. The PCM, powertrain control module would be my next component to have checked. A dealership should have the software to check this. I believe that the OEM part runs around $8 to $900.00 dollars. You may be able to get an aftermarket replacement for around $200, but once installed electrical components are not returnable. Do not get stranded somewhere, have a dealship check this problem out!
Nearly 48 hours of just leaving my Durango alone due to stressing over it and entire day of trying to figure this problem out here on the pc and all you guys's help, a friend goes out and starts the thing up right away. It may not start tom. morning,,but hope it does. Having someone to check everything I have learned so far from you. I'' be back when I see what happens. THANKS GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does the engine turn over, crank ????
If the engine will not turn over, crank, clean the battery cables at the opposite end, not the battery end. Some times they loose continuity. If this does not work, it sounds as though you need a new starter.
Yep, sounds like a bad alternator.. The battery turns over the starter, once engine is running the alternator will maintain a charge to the battery.Whenever a battery becomes depleted/bad the vehicle will run off the alternator for short term, alternator eventually failing and needing to be replaced... I'm curious to what it cost you to have a battery professionally charged, probably could have bought a new battery at labor cost.
If the vehicle would start you could pull the negative battery terminal while engine is running, if engine shuts down once terminal is removed - bad alternator. Since you say your vehicle will not start, remove alternator and have it bench tested (free) at local parts store
Company where I purchased the battery came out free of cha r ge, but for the price I paid forr t he battery the service charge ,must have been in there somewhere.Seems that mechanics and auto parts stores see a woman coming a mile away. This is my second battery the first one I bought was too small to carry everything wish I had known to contact you guys sooner. Being a single woman and having to look up and troubleshoot my own car problems has become so irritating..In the past I learned to tell if this thing had a bad alternator
