Nissan Terrano 2.7 turbo diesel starts ok but has no pulling power, painfully slow at pulling away and speed drops drastically on the slightest of gradient. Appears some kind of a fuel problem?
I have got 2.7 turbo thats lost power ive changed fuel filter but when you put your foot down it blowing heaps of smoke ??
Check the exhaust recycling valves, across the back of the engine there is a pipe where exhaust is fed back into the intake manifold while cruising and idle. I had a problem with this due to throttle position sensor not sending the right signals to control the valves. I disabled the valves so that it did not recycle or restrict the airflow with the butterfly valve on the air intake. Before fixing it the car would blow huge clouds black smoke when accelerating.
change air flow meter had same a problem wiv a ford mavrick ,

I had the same problem . Local dealer did not seem to know the solution. Eventually trawling these pages I tried changing the air mass metering unit which I got from ebay dealer for about £30 something. The change in performance was staggering. I believe you can clean the unit with a solvent too. It is easy to change yourself and is in line after air filter. Ed
Hi guys just letting you no there is also a little filter on the intake to the injector pump. Flow fuel line from the filter to the injector pump remove banjo bolt don't loose the cooper washes .under this normally there is a spring then right in the bottom a small fimble looking mesh filter . Remove it and clean it should make a big difference . Once this is done a good in fuel injector cleaner
Guys
I had a similar problem with lack of power, not noticeable aroundtown but really noticeable on dual carriageway. Gear change on the automatic box wasn't as smooth as normal and Couldn't rev past 3500, on full throttle , white blue smoke , sounded like a misfire, but only happened on wide open throttle. Suspected fuel starvation so :
Changed fuel filter -no difference.
Disconnected and blew air down the fuelpipes, felt quite difficult and tasted horrible.
Took tank sender out , checked swirl on pickup that was slightly dirty in colour but free of blockage .
Then noticed if I pressurised the lift pump the engine revved better but only for a couple of revs. I had previously tried to find the filter in the banjo on the fuel pump to no avail, but I'd covered off all of the other easy stuff, so went back to the banjo again. This time I removed the spring under the banjo bolt, dug deeper (about 7CM's) into the pump fetched the banjo out, spring out then I had to make long thin hook to fetch the tiny filter out. It was filthy, nearly 20 years of use, probably never been removed before. I did break it getting it out, so left it out, Nissan did the same sometimes
Oh my God, what a difference, its the best its ever been.
Hope this helps others .. thanks
M reg 2.7diesel just died, plenty of fuel at injector pump but nothing at injectors, appreciate solutions
Hi did you ever find a solution for your car as mine is doing the same & i have run out of ideas... and money thanks
IT is the needle valve in the injector pump, being fly by wire there are two magnets that drive the needle up and down governing the flow of fuel. this is the issue with these pumps.

OK i have same problem and it got resolve changing the diesel filter and got more power right away but attention have too be genuine parts from the dealer all filter air oil and diesel . att. Francisco from Dominican Republic.
Have the same problem with my 1993 Nissan Terrano Td27. Think I didnt dig deep enough into fuel pump inlet to find filter. LOP under load and misses under revs. Changed furl filter now smokes alot and the auto trans changes like rubbish!
Ok, here is another possibility. I was driving and went to overtake, part way through the overtake, the engine just died, eased off on the throttle, to get a little power back, by 200km (120 miles) later, I could barely get to 100 km/h on flat road. Basically the engine was getting starved of fuel when it needed more. So I got a new fuel filter, by another 200km I could only do 50km/h on hills and 80km/h downhill. I was hoping to make it home without having to replace it at night, but that was becoming impossible. I pulled over and replaced the fuel filter (left side of engine bay against fire wall) and bled the fuel system by manually pumping the button on top of the fuel filter, until resistance is felt - this can take a while, as the filter is completely empty, and if you start the engine and it dies, then you haven't pumped it enough. I had to undo the 2 x 12mm bolts which hold the filter mount, to get a good grip to unscrew the filter .
I had this and solved it. Take off Mass Air Flow Meter and spray a whole can of WURTH CONTACT WASH AND CLEAN. Whilst you are spraying on the MAF, put a plastic bahind it so that you can collect the spray int it. Put the MAF in the bag with this contact cleaner spray and leave it there for a couple of hours. Blow dry it with compressed air and mount it again back. That's it, !!
