I bought it certified pre- owned 9/12/2014 with 78 thousand miles on it when we got it. I put gum out in a tank of gas to clean injectors and the like. the rotten egg smell comes from the exaust and not all the time.
I also have a 2011 Chevy Equinox and same issue. I also began losing power when driving on hills. Had to replace the Catalytic Converter. (On the exhaust). Worked great after that. I also lost that rotten egg smell.
Ha ha, that sounds like somebody had a bad lunch. A couple of tanks more of gas should clear away the indigestion...
The good thing about your Equinox is the post catalytic converter Oxygen Sensor, put there just to monitor the efficiency of the catalytic converter. If there is a problem with the converter, a fault code will be set, and it may take a certain number of drive cycles before it sets a fault code and turns on your check engine light, but if there is a problem, the engine computer will probably register it before you do.
I will tell you a worse scenario after using Techron Injector Cleaner in the tank of my (carbureted) 1987 Nissan sentra. I must have blew a seal or gasket in the carburetor somewhere. Suddenly it runs extremely rich, the spark plugs are blackened, runs worse and worse, and I'm thinking I have to rebuild this trap or find another used carburetor somewhere (Car-Part.com). One more go-round with a carburetor in any fashion, does not exactly delight me.
Usually rotten egg smell indicates catalytic converter problem.
