Fan Drive Belts & Tenision Pully

I have a 1973 Corvette with a 454 engine. The V-Belts on the engine run the engine fan, A/C, Alt, & Power steering pump. There is the inside belt taht runs between just the W/Pump pulley and the Crank pulley which has a tenisioner on it. I need to find a Diagram of how that tenisioner is mounted to the front of the block. Any Help on where to look????

Sometimes you can find a good exploded diagram by shopping for parts on the oem websites.

SOURCE: 1973 ford f250 trailer special. new alt. wont

That would be my first guess, they are not very exspensive,if this still does not help, run a large wire on the back of the alternator with the old one still connected,to the positive battery post. This will increase the voltage to the battery also.Put it on the large batt, connector on the alternator, and run it to the battery post+

427 runs hot

What size stat do you have in the car as 220 is not a high temp most small blocks will run 220 to 235. I guess you could change the stat it might be sticking some. The other thing to look for is does the system have an air lock, is it knocking when at operating temp. What temp is the fans kicking on at, they maybe turning on late. Hope this helps.

Loud & piercing whinning engine noise

Your right on. Its most likely the altenator. Chances are the belt is sliping because the pully bearing is bad. Of course this all means that you are running off the battery and it is getting low. You will get stuck when you can least afford to. You must remove the altenator and replace. Oh one last thing it could very well be your water pump pully bearing. So remove fan belt and spin with your hand, if you feel resistance thats it, so remove fan belt and check before you start replacing components. Good luck

Squeaking... pully maybe?

the ac belt is sperate from the power steering belt.. sounds to me you need to replace the belts (both of them) but theres a idler pully in the middle of them all witch may have a bearing going out on it..i had to change mine at about 85,000.. when i had the belts off i spun the pully and it was excessivly stiff cause'n slipage and also a squel.. hope its not the alt, or water pump making the noise..they can run ya into some $$
