Timing on 4.7 help

I need help setting the timing on a 4.7 durango ,, can anyone help me ... Thank you mes2500

INSTALLATION

  1. Using a vise, lightly compress the secondary chain tensioner piston until the piston step is flush with the tensioner body. Using a pin or suitable tool, release ratchet pawl by pulling pawl back against spring force through access hole on side of tensioner. While continuing to hold pawl back, Push ratchet device to approximately 2 mm from the tensioner body. Install Special Tool 8514 lock pin into hole on front of tensioner. Slowly open vise to transfer piston spring force to lock pin (Resetting Secondary Chain Tensioners).
  2. Position primary chain tensioner over oil pump and insert bolts into lower two holes on tensioner bracket. Tighten bolts to 28 N·m (250 in. lbs.). CAUTION: Overtightening the tensioner arm torx® bolt can cause severe damage to the cylinder head. Tighten torx® bolt to specified torque only.
  3. Install right side chain tensioner arm. Apply Mopar® Lock N, Seal to torx® bolt, tighten bolt to 17 N·m (150 in. lbs.). NOTE: The silver bolts retain the guides to the cylinder heads and the black bolts retain the guides to the engine block.
  4. Install the left side chain guide. Tighten the bolts to 28 N·m (250 in. lbs.). CAUTION: Overtightening the tensioner arm torx® bolt can cause severe damage to the cylinder head. Tighten torx® bolt to specified torque only.
  5. Install left side chain tensioner arm. Apply Mopar® Lock N, Seal to torx® bolt, tighten bolt to 17 N·m (150 in. lbs.).
  6. Install the right side chain guide. Tighten the bolts to 28 N·m (250 in. lbs.).
  7. Install both secondary chains onto the idler sprocket. Align two plated links on the secondary chains to be visible through the two lower openings on the idler sprocket (4 o'clock and 8 o'clock). Once the secondary timing chains are installed, position special tool 8515 to hold chains in place for installation (Installing Secondary Timing Chains on Idler Sprocket).
  8. Align primary chain double plated links with the timing mark at 12 o'clock on the idler sprocket. Align the primary chain single plated link with the timing mark at 6 o'clock on the crankshaft sprocket (Timing Chain System).
  9. Lubricate idler shaft and bushings with clean engine oil.
  10. Install all chains, crankshaft sprocket, and idler sprocket as an assembly (Installing Idler Gear, Primary and Secondary Timing Chains). After guiding both secondary chains through the block and cylinder head openings, affix chains with a elastic strap or the equivalent, This will maintain tension on chains to aid in installation. NOTE: It will be necessary to slightly rotate camshafts for sprocket installation.
  11. Align left camshaft sprocket “L” dot to plated link on chain.
  12. Align right camshaft sprocket “R” dot to plated link on chain. CAUTION: Remove excess oil from the camshaft sprocket bolt. Failure to do so can result in over-torque of bolt resulting in bolt failure.
  13. Remove Special Tool 8515, then attach both sprockets to camshafts. Remove excess oil from bolts, then Install sprocket bolts, but do not tighten at this time.
  14. Verify that all plated links are aligned with the marks on all sprockets and the “V8” marks on camshaft sprockets are at the 12 o'clock position (Timing Chain System). CAUTION: Ensure the plate between the left secondary chain tensioner and block is correctly installed.
  15. Install both secondary chain tensioners. Tighten bolts to 28 N·m (250 in. lbs.). NOTE: Left and right secondary chain tensioners are not common.
  16. Before installing idler sprocket bolt, lubricate washer with oil, and tighten idler sprocket assembly retaining bolt to 34 N·m (25 ft. lbs.).
  17. Remove all locking pins (3) from tensioners. CAUTION: After pulling locking pins out of each tensioner, DO NOT manually extend the tensioner(s) ratchet. Doing so will over tension the chains, resulting in noise and/or high timing chain loads.
  18. Using Special Tool 6958, Spanner with Adaptor Pins 8346, tighten left (Tightening Left Side Camshaft Sprocket Bolt) and right (Tightening Right Side Camshaft Sprocket Bolt). camshaft sprocket bolts to 122 N·m (90 ft. lbs.).
  19. Rotate engine two full revolutions. Verify timing marks are at the follow locations:
  20. Lubricate all three chains with engine oil.
  21. After installing all chains, it is recommended that the idler gear end play be checked (Measuring Idler Gear End Play). The end play must be within 0.10–0.25 mm (0.004–0.010 in.). If not within specification, the idler gear must be replaced.
  22. Install timing chain cover (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT / CHAIN COVER(S) - INSTALLATION) and crankshaft damper (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/ENGINE BLOCK/VIBRATION DAMPER - INSTALLATION).
  23. Install cylinder head covers (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/CYLINDER HEAD/CYLINDER HEAD COVER(S) - INSTALLATION). NOTE: Before installing threaded plug in right cylinder head, the plug must be coated with sealant to prevent leaks.
  24. Coat the large threaded access plug with Mopar® Thread Sealant with Teflon, then install into the right cylinder head and tighten to 81 N·m (60 ft. lbs.) (Cylinder Head Access Plug Location).
  25. Install the oil fill housing.
  26. Install access plug in left cylinder head (Cylinder Head Access Plug Location).
  27. Install power steering pump (Refer to 19 - STEERING/PUMP - INSTALLATION).
  28. Install radiator fan shroud.
  29. Fill cooling system (Refer to 7 - COOLING - STANDARD PROCEDURE).
  30. Connect negative cable to battery.

    In easier words remove the front cover and valve cover of the head you replaced. rotate the engine so the primary chain bigger gear sprocket dot is at 12 oclock. the cam sprocket there is a V8 mark on it. the V8 should be at the 12 oclock position. if not remove the chain guide on the one side only and tensioner and adjust. when done manually move the tensioner piston out a little but not to much. If you don't as so as you start it the timing will jump and be off again. rotate engine 2 time and recheck all you marks. Hope this helps. My first directions are right from the dealership website it can get a little confusion engineers write the ****.

This is the same engine for the ram 1500, it comes with 2 gears and chain, set the cam gear with the dot facing downward and the cranshaft gear facing upward, turn the engine abour two full rpm and check for the dots if they are aligned you are set.

Does the engine have a distributor? Chances are it does not, and therefore you cannot adjust the timing.

1992 Chevrolet Tahoe timing

timing on the chevy motors do not very much.
most of the older 350's timing are set about 8 deg before top dead center. some california smog certified 350 timing were set back to 0 deg or, at top dead center. check under the hood for a smog decal. it should have the timing specs, or it might say "timing not adjustable" or N/A. if it is missing the decal i would set it at 8 deg, road drive it, and listen for enging pinging on accelerating under load. if no ping i would leave it at 8 deg,if there is slight pinging i would ****** the timing in 2 deg increments until the pining stops. i would stop if i reach reach 0 deg or top dead center.

I don't have that info because the timing is computer controlled and listed as "not adjustable"

How do you remove timing cover on a 2001 dodge durango 5.9

this thing, has a lot things to do. a certified technicians only can do the job. but if you wanna do it alone, here are some instruction(s) after removing the parts to have acces on it.
1. Remove the crankshaft pulley using the appropriate socket.
2. Remove the harmonic balancer using the harmonic balancer puller.
3. Loosen the oil pan bolts.
4. Remove the front two oil pan bolts--one on each side of the crankshaft--these two bolts help hold the timing cover in place.
4. Remove the timing cover bolts using the appropriate socket.
5.Pull the cover off the block.
6.Remove the seal from the timing cover using a seal puller(if it is your problem).
7. Clean the gasket mounting surfaces on the engine and timing cover with the scraper.
8. Smear a thin layer of silicone on the timing cover's gasket mounting surface.
9. Fit the gasket on the timing cover.
10. Install the timing cover and tighten the bolts to it's specified torque.
11. Reinstall the two oil pan bolts and tighten them to it's specified torque.
12. Reinstall the accessories in reverse order of removal.

Timing marks setting Hyundai Lantra

Installation
Ensure timing marks aligned [6] & [7] . 1. Fit timing belt in anti-clockwise direction, starting at crankshaft sprocket. Ensure belt is taut between sprockets. 2. Slacken tensioner pulley bolt [8] . Push tensioner pulley firmly against timing belt to tension belt. 3. Tighten tensioner pulley bolt [8] . Tightening torque: 43-55 Nm. 4. Except Matrix: Turn crankshaft one turn clockwise. 5. Matrix: Turn crankshaft two turns clockwise. 6. Ensure timing marks aligned [6] . 7. Apply a load of 2 kg to belt at . Belt should deflect 4-6 mm. If not: Adjust position of tensioner pulley. 8. Install components in reverse order of removal. 9. Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt [2] . Tightening torque: 170-180 Nm

7 is timing mark on cam,pin mark to top,hole in spoke below pin mark lines up with mark on head
6 is crank timing mark,pin mark on crank lines up with mark on block

Need to know how timing is suppose to be set for a 2000 dodge durango 4.2

I don't have a definitive answer for your vehicle , however most newer vehicles do not have adjustments for timing. The engine computer senses the cam position , and controls fuel injection and spark timing electronically

Hello nedmonston03: My name is Roger and I will help you. First in order to set the timing you need to put the computer into diagnostic mode. Over be the fuse box you will find a small box marked diagnostic. Open the box locate the terminals E1 and TE1. Start the engine and jump the two terminals together. This will set the computer so you can set static timing. If you set the timing with out doing this first you will never get to static timing. After you set the timing remove your jumper wire. Any other work to reset timing would have to be done internally.

I put a new head on my 01 durango and now it will not start ,it fired one or two times , and then back fired and stopped

the timing is off. Im a chryler forman if u need direction on how to set the timing post it let me know I will walk u through it. Very easy to mess the timing up on the 3 chain set up.
