Hi
The problem would be the brake light switch located on brake pedal.

In most cases this would indicate a defective brake light switch.
My experience with this come from a 2001 ford windstar which would work well most times but every now and then would run the battery dead. Due to the higher cost of replacement switch I discovered function / actuation mode of the same switch did some adjustments and fixed it. Same switch now working perfectly with no relapse for over one year.
If you are sure the brake pedal is returning all the way up then it is more than likely the switch. Do not be afraid to give it a look to see if you can correct the problem with some minor adjustments.
If i remember correctly a good strong sharp utility knife was used when I fixed mine, be careful not to cut yourself!!

My 1995 Chevy Tahoe brake light switch wont stay in position and the brake lights stay on. I replaced the switch and had the same problem.

Brake Light Switch REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disable the SIR system (if equipped).
  3. Remove the clip (R/V Series) or unclip the switch (C/K Series) and unplug the electrical connector from the brake light switch.
  4. Remove the switch.
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Chevy S-10 brake lights stay on all the time

The brake light switch is located is located under the
dash, at top of the brake peddle.
To test the sw, use a 12v test light check for constant power out of the switch, with nothing else on. If there's pwr. out replace the switch.
Hope this helps. Good luck

Brake lights will not turn off on my 94 Nissan Altima

Your problem should be that the rubber stops that are mounted at the top of your break pedal came out or are worn down too much to press the buttons all the way in.
What they do is push the button that switches off your break lights when the break pedal is released (yes, kind of backwards way to design it, i know). That's why your lights stay on even when your car is off. I had to go to the junkyard to find replacements for mine and they are a ***** to replace.
They are chipped away easily by the break switches when your car shakes badly over a prolonged period of time. Like driving a couple of weeks on a bad front tire.

'S' Light, Speedometer, and Brake light not working properly

On the brake light does not turn-off, you may want to check the brake switch located at the brake padel. It may have 2 or 3 wire switch so please ensure you buy the right one for replacement.

On the speedometer issue, I guess the speed sensor is faulty. It is located on top of the transmission unit, back side of the engine/transmission.
