6-banger. Replaced alternator roughly 2 years ago. Replaced serpentine belt 6 months ago. Suspect tensioner pulley or idler pulley. Didn't know if other items we suspect. Thanks!
Most often this is as you say an idler or tensioner pulley but could also be the water pump or power steering pump if fitted. The 2 year old alternator is also a suspect and you will have to eliminate them one at a time. I would start with trying to spray each bearing with WD40 and see if the squeak stops or changes pitch.
You're on the right track, removing the serpentine belt and manually rotating/ spinning the pulleys listening for a dragging, or grinding. If its very bad you may even see a outward movement. hope this helps!

If you have a book picture your are screwed. You do have a tensioner but it is between air con and powersteering pullys. In front from under you can put 15mm wrenchopend with a nother for leverage pull center bolt down to release tension. simple.

take the belt and spin all the pulleys and listen for noise and make sure they turn smoothly
another trick is to take a can of wd40 or equivalent and spray the bearings 1 at a time till the noise goes away or quiets down

The smooth rounded tensioner pulley has a 1/2 inch drive recessed
ratchet drive fitting in the outer side of it. Reach down and feel it
with your fingers and insert the ratchet drive into it. Look around the
underside of the hood and engine bay for a small diagram showing the
belt, pulleys and tensioner.
This pulley is either a slider or a spring loaded pulley. If it
is a slider, there will be one or two bolts with "slide" areas that the
bolt can move through, and possibly a third bolt that controls the
tension. If it is a spring loader, there will be a pulley that looks
like it is on a lever. There will be a "bolt" type head, a hole for a
ratchet, or a square area on the end of the lever to twist it away from
the belt. If it is one of these, the belt tensioner will move
relatively easy.

Replace the tensioner, and or tighten tensioner for the belt.
