Jeep grand cherokee 1999, automatic, 4litre, petrol. there is fuel in the tank but the engine will not start and the fuel guage is showing empty. anyone know what the problem may be.

Crankshaft Position Sensor is not providing the correct information to the ECU (Computer)... OR The Fuel Filter / Fuel Pump is clogged or going bad. Put a Fuel Gauge on your car and see what pressure it is and what happens after it starts to die..

yes it may be ur computer problem

try to off it for few hours and then ON it

Could be the auto shutdown relay is getting weak. Try swapping it with the horn relay.

Sending unit which now comes with a fuel pump

possibly wires not reconnected correctly on fuel pump if the fuel pump is in fuel tank

Drain all the petrol on your tank and so on the injection pump by pumping it. Open or loosen small tube going into the engine from the injection pump, to drain all petrol.

Make sure that petrol are remove from the engine fuel system, change fuel filter also. After removal bleed the engine.

go to nearest dealer and will have to purchase new fuel cap and they will be able to re-tumble new lock to your key and remove old cap

sounds like computer not reading securty key try to disconnect + battery terminal for 2mins then retry

this is a common problem with this model jeep that should have been recalled. There is most likely short in the wiring harness that will be expensive to locate

Fuel level sending units are known to go bad on these.
