Hi Randy. I was driving and trying accelerate however, RPMs went to 5 and I received no power accelerate....just started slowing down. Pulled to side of road; put in park; tried to move forward and couldn't get out of park. Also brake pedal would not compress. Pumped brake and got into reverse but would not move. Waited for tow. When driver got there jeep drove fine. This is second time this has happened. Also, when rpms went to 5 but no acceleration, there was a burning smell similar to that of belt.

some drivelineoptions have sep. tcm others the TCM IS PART OF PCM, THAT high RPm is trans slip or called flair, did all gears slip, 1,2,3,drive and Rev? KEY FACT, the brake lamp failure(circuit) KILLS PARK LOCK, as would low battery. sounds like pedal fail is engine stall or real low RPM ,(not stated) 800 RPM IS NORMAL, if too low , vacuum drops and the booster fails., what drive line you got? AWD, 2wd, part time 4wd? what? what trans, how many speeds, or model 42xxx or?

Time for a transmission rebuild. Clutches get burnt and after a few miles the transmission will stop pulling. After a while psses it cools down and starts grabbing again. This will only get worse. Until it won't move at all.

Well Randy, that wasn't the answer I was hoping for, however, it was a gut feeling. I didn't think at 119k that I would need a new trans

  • Randy Ohler Jan 18, 2015

Different things can happen on newer transmissions. That can and will effect the clutches wearing out before their time. Could be the converter, pump, solenoids, valves, seals, or a part broke inside the transmission. When it starts loosing pressure the clutches go with out fluid. They burn up fast. I've seen some with 2000 miles that had to be rebuilt. Some one built it and scratched a seal putting it back in. Resulted it low fluid pressure. Biggest thing is maintenance. Everyone knows to change the engine oil at so many miles. But neglect the transmission. A clogged filter can also take out clutches. No flow threw the filter, no fluid to the clutches.

Please post symtoms
leave the goose chase to kids, (easter eggs?)
look at the wiki for liberty, note factory options on drive line?
we cant guess that.
some have diffident controls, and locations.
2wd and 4wd are options.
got select trac, or command trac, 4wd?

in most cars the TCM moved to ECU And was renamed PCm on that day. (late 90's) (history ) but varies greatly by drive line opted day 1.
Quote
he Liberty is available with either a part-time Command-Trac or full-time Selec-Trac transfer case.

some 4wd have their own TCM, Thus my comment.
so what up: (wusup)(sic)
got A/T slip
or 4wd issues, name part of car that has issues,
or just want to polish case of tcm

I have a 2004 jeep liberty, 4wd, v6. It has 192,835 miles on it. Out of the blue it started to get stuck in second gear. Yes it is an A/T. Its throwing a transmission module fault. Any ideas on the fix for it?

Side note, the only way to get it out and back to shifting right is to shut the vehicle off and let it set for a little bit then start it back up.

TCM location jeep grand cherokee WJ 2,7 CRD

Disassemble the TCM and use magnifier to check the solderings of both plugs. If you can see any circles on the solderings then resolder them. You can resolder them for "just in case" as well. TCM is located on the right side of shifter assembly, near the passenger legs.

NAG1 (early and late) or 545RFE trans? there are 3.
i guess, you are trying to find it......
first off, go to alldata.com and look.
and all cars move the TCM , into the PCM , from 1997 to 2004 (aprox)
but this jeep 07

nag1 MTC, (module trans control) has C1 and C2,
RFE has. C4, 10 pages, on RFE and all show, C4 only.
not sure what that means.?

the TCM/MTC is not integrated in to the PCM. yet. on this year.
there are 2 modules on the RFE,
i highly recommend a real FSM.

TCM location in jeep patriot

The Transmission Control Module AKA TCM is combined with the PCM on your Jeep. You will find the PCM inside of the right-side fender, which is located within the engine.
