Sounds like a blockage or air lock in the cooling system! To bleed from cold, undo the expansion cap, select all heater controls inside to hot, start vehicle and let run until temp gets up and fans cut in, you should see air being expelled from expansion bottle if an airlock was there! Replace expansion cap and turn vehicle off! System is bled! When thermostat and water pump replaced this would have been done then right?

I agree with your logic. Attached vid addresses bleeding. Sounds like at low rpms, not enough flow to transfer the heat. So bubble or maybe a partially obstructed core. There are a couple of vids on clearing a core... GOod luck, let us know if you figure it out.

2004 Kia low heat at idle hiway speeds ok

Make sure and top up your coolant at every fill-up for a while. Airlocked heat exchangers tend to burp out air at random until none is left. My saturn still has a little in it, i can hear it the first time i take off from a stoplight in the morning.

On these and many other vehicles, use a vacuum refill coolant air lift. This removes all air in the cooling system and then fills the cooling system fully with coolant.

2004 Kia low heat at idle hiway speeds ok

1) Coolant tank may show full but radiator is low in coolant...Cold engine...remove cap...inspect coolant level in radiator...fill if necessary,,,
2) If #1 is OK, the coolant system has an air blockage...With cold engine remove cap...Start engine...Heat control on high... when thermostat opens coolant AND air will escape from radiator...there will be coolant loss...Wait until all air escapes then carefully replace cap...When engine cools remove cap and top off coolant if required.....saailer

make sure to check your coolant tank at every fill-up for a few fill-ups. This problem has a way of coming back if you don't top up your coolant at just the right times.

Why does my 2004 avalanche not heat up when i am

Check the coolant level. in the winter time It will not over heat very easily but vapor locks can occur and low coolant level will do what your describing ...When you drive the water pump is spinning faster causing coolant to intermittently flow through the heater core so it gets warm then cold at an idle.. also a thermostat that is stuck open will also cause this its also in the cooling system, if the cooling system is full I would replace the thermostat..good luck hope this helps

2000 kia sportage new heater core no heat

You most likely have air in the cooling system. You would need to bleed the cooling system of air. There should have bleed screws near water neck,or thermostat.Do this cold.Remove the radiator cap and fill full. Then start the engine and loosen the screws and watch for nothing but coolant to flow out(no air or bubbles). When you are sure the air is gone out of the cooling system, shut the bleeder screw off,and fill radiator up and test to see that engine runs cool, and you have heat at all speeds and rpm s.The electric cooling fan should come on at a tempuratue of about 215 or so.But just as important, the cooling fan should cut off at a lower tempurature. If the cooling fan does not do this, you still have air in the system. If you can not get the air out this way, then do this.Remove the radiator cap and reservoir cap and fill them both up full. The reservoir needs to be over the fill mark a good deal.Replace the caps.Start the engine with ac and heat off.Let it run until the engine gets to about 212 or 215 degrees and shut the engine off.Wait about 30 minutes and check the reservoir to see if the coolant has dropped. It should have dropped. If the reservoir has dropped or not ,do this again and again untill the reservoir drops in coolant level, and engine temp is good(fan goes on and goes off).Remember to refill the reservoir as needed as it drops, not to run out of coolant.

Heater bows cold when idling

Hya!
You need to bleed the cooling system.
To do this park on level ground, when cold remove coolant filler cap, start engine and leave to idle.
Have plenty of warm/hot water available, when engine reaches operating temp it may appear to boil over so keep away from coolant filler, top up with warm/hot water and wait as it may bubble over a few times before settling.
Replace cap and hopefully back to normal, Remember your Anti Freeze?
Good luck,
