Check the coolant at the radiator and the overflow. Add 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze if it is low. If that only temporarily fixes the problem, it means that there is a leak somewhere. Most likely the water pump will have to be replaced, but it could be a leaky radiator, radiator hose, or heater core hose. If the radiator is full of coolant, make sure the fan belt is on, and is tight, or that the electric fan comes on if it has an electric driven fan. If all of these items check out good, replace the thermostat.
