Okay the flashing overdrive light is a trouble code and you need to have pcm (powertrain control module) codes read to know what they are. This is a common problem with these trucks but not always same cause, sometimes it is a vehicle speed sensor and sometimes it is a faulty torque converter clutch solenoid. Either way most eveyone agrees it needs to go to a ford dealer to be diagnosed correctly

Transmission problems? Not sure what is wrong. Looking for advice.

The problem could be a long list of things, including the main pump in the transmission or the torque converter.
I would need to know what the trouble codes were to advise you on that part.
I would recommend you take it to a couple of transmission shops for advice. They can test pump pressure cold and hot. The trouble codes will also help with troubleshooting.

Could be a possible throttle positioning sensor going bad. The only way to know for sure is to have someone hook up and diagnose.

if the gears were "melted together" then the trans wouldn't shift at all. since the car runs fine sometimes and sometimes it doesn't it sounds like an electronic problem. the trans uses shift solenoids to acheive gear changes. is the fluid dark brown in color or smell burnt? if so you may have some slipping of the clutch discs/ bands, but it doesn't sound severe if the car runs fine at times. i suggest you have a trans shop to drive the car and get a more accurate diagnosis.

Sounds like your transmission is slipping or your torque converter is bad.---check the transmission fluid level and see if it smells burnt and discolored.

Just bought a 4wd 07 chevy tahoe LT. Was spinning out in reverse on a sheet of ice and only the rear wheels moved. did it a few times and got same result. Is the car just not 4wd in reverse? Thank you...

WERE YOU in auto 4wd or 4hi? sometimes vehicles will pop out of 4wd in reverse the auto mode detects slip going forward not backwards so if in auto tes it will have problems in reverse.

Usually in most cases when a transmission wont go in reverse, is not good. I would try to have the transmission fluid and filter replaced. That might fix it and save you a few hundred dollars. If it does not help, then you are going to ned to take your car and have the transmission fixed.

If it is an automatic it may be time to service the transmission. The transmission oil filter is inside the pan and can only be changed during a transmission service. The symptoms indicate low fluid or restricted filter as minimum expense possible causes. If it still does it after the service you may need additional transmission repairs.
