2006 ion after car starts the starter stays in gaged?

I think you have a bunch of damaged flywheel teeth.

problem starter rely or starter solenoid
check for damaged ring gear teeth or pin ion damage

If it is continous click, the battery is week, if it is a single click the starter is bad. did you try jump starting from another car??

check your battery,or not clean battery terminals,or starter motor solenoid.

you might have instrument cluster problem,ignition or alternater you have to do some test

You will have to pinpoint what the engine is missing...
- Spark
- Fuel
- Compression

All three of these are tested when the engine is being cranked over. There are two way of checking for fuel. Fuel pressure and fuel trigger. Both are very important and must be present for the engine to start. Fuel pressure is self explanatory. You just hook up the gage and see what the reading is. Fuel trigger is check with a noid light. The injector gets unplugged and the noid light gets plugged in to the injector clip. With the engine cranking over, this light must blink. This is the signal to the injectors from the computer. You can have all the fuel pressure in the world, but it wont matter if the injector is not pulsing gas into the cylinder like it should.

Compression tester, spark tester, fuel pressure gage and noid light are all accessible at your local auto store. All three tests play a very important part in diagnosing a no start condition. Be extremely careful when doing these tests.

Seams that your starter has failed.
You can check it if you have a volt meter.
1. Fist check for 12v at the main large post on your starter solenoid.
2.Then place your meter on the 2nd large post its the one with the braided wire that enters the starter.. Then turn the ignition on as you would to start it.If you have 12v there then your starter motor has failed and you need to replace it.

Possibly loose or dirty battery connection

Recheck the wiring connections to your starter.

the 1st thing to do is have a trouble code test run to see if any coes are in mem for this problem. The sensor u refer to is the crankshaft position sensor.
